I do agree, the second time (and I imagine the third) is really not such a big deal.

I do slightly regret not getting the PhD graduation, that was a really big deal in terms of my time and commitment even if it wasn't the best choice. Though the hat like a sock was not a draw. (I forgot when my professional diploma graduation was - they only do one ceremony a year, and it was the July of the year *after* the year I knew I'd passed in the spring, due to formalities about moderation, paperwork and declaring you didn't want to go through for a Masters. Which I felt would be overkill...)
My MA year was a really lousy one. I'd just lost my granny and broken up with the aforementioned student boyfriend rather messily at the point where I had to decide about applying for a PhD. Exactly the point where someone should have applied beer and sense, alas.
