Wonderful dialogue in each of these scenes. Buffy's vague inquiry certainly hit a nerve, but I love that it makes Faith defend the relationship which makes her blurt she's in for the long haul. Of course she'd immediately back pedal, but the seed has been planted.
Giles having to wait to hear just who had died at Ulan Bator was beautifully written and I love that Spike is there to steady Giles, too. They both have to watch their women put themselves in danger all the time, but it never gets easier.
Spike trying to drum up a bit of male solidarity was charming and I like how that scene solidified how tough being a slayer's guy is. Spike falling into old, bad habits and stalking Buffy when she was pregnant is hilariously in character.
Giles, in puffed up, new dad mode, was a delight. Of course Michael is the most intelligent, attractive and outstanding six-hour-old baby in the world. I loved how he turned Buffy's teasing right back on her - pot meet kettle!
Buffy losing her leg is just the kind of thing that Spike and Giles fear every time Faith and Buffy leave the house. They may be super strong, but they're still human. You painted a vivid, emotional picture here: Then they were hugging, in the manner of two women who don’t often get close, but who can’t avoid it this time. Faith was aware that Buffy had half-lost her balance and was trying to cover so no one else would notice. Between them, complicit, they managed to get Buffy re-seated without too many wobbles. Complicit is the perfect word, and Faith helping Buffy cover is wonderful. Beautifully done.
This is probably the fic where the Rulesverse finally widened out to beyond F/G. They operate in a tight-knit world, and comrades like Spike and Buffy will keep on popping up - their relationships started to interest me too. Glad you liked the individual ficlets!
