Well. Catholic guest houses r me

I'm travelling tonight for my professional association rather than for work. Work usually covers my travel for them, in fact, but I'm a stand in workshop presenter tomorrow at the last minute and have taken leave to cover it; there are limits to what work can be expected to stand.

I'm staying in the room booked for the original presenter, who recommended it. In the guest house of the Archdiocese of St Andrews. I'm in Embra, but this is not business-hotel-Edinburgh as I know it. Good grief. Single beds, pastel walls, doilies, inevitably crucifixes on all walls, and wifi that mostly works at reception.

We're not that far from the town centre, and it's not uncomfortable or anything. But for £10 more I cd be in a premier inn, and I really wish I was. Sigh. Luckily not alone, as my co-presenter met me at Waverley and we had a nice dinner. And we're up fairly early so I need an early night. It's all do-able. I just wish I wasn't doing it.

Tomorrow: from Edinburgh to the Black Country. Where I shall stay in a Novotel and be unusually grateful for it.
