Wow, this is a good week for flattering fic news! Not only have I picked up a bunch of awards at
rwsawards (will give details when the banners come out), but I have also got a load of nominations already at the brand new
Hellmouth Awards for rare pairing fic, which is the brainchild of the lovely
snowpuppies. Nominations are open for a month, and I urge you to go nominate lots and lots of lovely rare pair fic. They also need more judges, if you fancy getting involved. I've judged for
snowpuppies sites before, and it's a really good, well-run experience.
Volunteers can go here, and will be snuggled gratefully. ![](http://pics.livejournal.com/brutti_ma_buoni/pic/00070ex9)
Thank you, lovely nominator(s). I'm incredibly flattered to have been nominated for overall best rare pairs author. We lucky folk get to select 3-5 of our best fics as the basis for judging and to sit with the overall nom. I'm very torn about which fics to choose.
Breaking the Rules has to be in there, I think, and
Mirroring (Darla/Fred) is a sexy one-shot I'm really happy with for the most unlikely of pairings. But what else to suggest? It needs to be a mix of het and slash, and ideally I'd like to include both m/m and f/f.
So, maybe my latest
Oz/Xander, or else
Four Step Programme (Giles/Spike) which is the first slash I ever wrote but just seemed to work out. I can't use all-human or crossovers, which knocks out a lot of my m/m. Hmm.
What about multi stories? I love the shorts I wrote about
Willow/Oz/Talia, or else there's
Learning to Be Flexible (Giles/Spike/Illyria), which still makes me laugh.
F/f I'm almost spoilt for choice - maybe
Vi and Dawn working through the Key issues together. Or
Willow and Nina on the edge of the Apocalypse. Or
Buffy/Chao-Ahn...
Het, I'd really like to represent as Wes/Illyria (though in my head Illyria isn't exactly female). But
The Wide and Starry Sky is really part of the Spuffy Rulesverse, and I'm not sure it stands alone. How about their
schmoop ficlets then?
And do I add in
Giles/Harmony? It's rare! (And it has got a *hell* of a lot of comments. I'm scared.)
I don't know that I'm the best judge of 'best', though. There are fics which were a bugger to write and I tend to shy away from, while those that flowed tend to be my favourites irrespective of merit. Anything I've missed? Anything I *must* include? I'm a bit stunned, tbh, but if I can get new readers for my fics, I'll be exceedingly pleased.
