Frustrations, AKA Why I No Longer Give a Dribbling Sh## at Work

I don't get it. The boat left, I wasn't on it. I missed the meeting... I was sick that day... come ON, guys...

Why is it that everyone thinks my procedures and policies are malleable at their whims?

Why can this place not manage to convey the same meaning to two departments that have to work together?

OK.. For those who don't know, I work a File Room. My internal clients are the Underwriting department, Middle Markets in specific. We handle three kinds of folders for them: Account, Policy, and Loss Sensitive.
Account folders cover all the Account data for a given customer, Policies are individual. The Account folder goes cross-year, the Policy folders do not.

So if IrelleCorp has Auto, Liability, Crime, and Workmen's Comp last year and this year, they'd have 1 Account folder, and 8 Policy folders. We'll leave aside LS for now.

Recently, we were told that WE were to determine when new Account folders were to be created, based on how full the previous one was. This, as I understood it, was to be the case regardless of any distinctions Underwriting might make... such as if the folder was originally Company A's, or Company B's (recent merger). The ONLY exception was New Business, which naturally would have no Account folder yet.

So, if IrrelleCorp renewed all the policies this coming year, they'd get 4 more Policy folders and we'd look at the Account folder... If it was not too full, Underwriting would get it back to add on.. If it was too full, we'd make a Volume 2 of it and send that up.

Simple enough.

Except that Underwriting is now insisting that that's only t5he case for Company A folders, and B are to be done another way that mandates making Account folders on their say-so. Which we can't do without approval from OUR boss... who is out today.

Argh.

That's not the worst of it, though.

All our folders are tracked, or they are supposed to be. Take a folder, check it out. bring it back, it checks in. Easy, yes?

Except that I can tell that people were in the File room over the weekend, and I have NO idea and NO record of what may be taken or not.

I swear... I'm gonna stab these people with a raw flounder at this rate.
