SXSW Day 4

Mar 18, 2016 10:15

We started the day with quiche and then off to free bloody maries and tacos with a singer songwriter in the rain. Drinks drunk, tacos eaten it was off to see Oscar . They put on a terrific show. The lead singer is exuberant and each song was better than the last. It was a great way to kick off an excellent day party with strong sets from the super goofy Public Access TV , local indie trio The Moving Panoramas and The Crookes.

We then slid over to the She Shreds Magazine* party (which celebrates rocking women in music) for a set of super fun rock with Guantanamo Baywatch . Pure Bathing Culture from Portland closed out the show. They weren't my cup of tea but it was pleasant listening while the moon came up over downtown Austin.

Oscar was by far my favorite of the day followed closely by Public Access TV. Fingers crossed we'll find more fun today. The Brooklyn Vegan party has an Israeli singer I want to check out, Vadaaat Charigim He describes his sound as "a noisy, fast paced Cure album sung entirely in Hebrew" so he may be a hard sell for the mister. There are a couple other cool bands on the line up so it may work. Wish me luck!

*She Shreds magazine is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and encouraging future and current musicians by highlighting female guitarists and bassists from all over the world.
