After months of ever more frequent crashes and freezes, it's time to take the desktop in for some obviously overdue maintenance. Here's hoping a clean up and an upgrade will quickly clear everything right up *fingers crossed

I was looking for a shop recommendation and a guy in the neighborhood offered to take a look. Three hours later a corrupt hard drive is shiny and we've upgraded to a new OS. I'm still going to have to buy and install more RAM and get a bigger hard drive but it's running smoothly for the moment and he's going to install everything when it comes so I'm pretty elated!
The wild parakeets are made of awesome. I'm sure the native species are plenty disgruntled but they're so pretty!
It wasn't simple and it certainly wasn't something I could do myself (unless I had years of computer experience other than surfing the net and downloading podfic) but we're on the right track and the computer didn't need to leave the house. Thanks, neighbor!
It was super cool. A woman walking her dog looked at me and we both had the goofiest grins on our faces. Even her dog was too mesmerized to bark.
Keep the good thought because although it's running smoothly now there was a lot of jumping through hoops and another external hard drive to get it up to snuff. Now we're on to replacing the hard drive and increasing the memory. I'm not pulling this thing apart without a trained professional at my elbow!
These parakeets live in condos they build around light poles (think big stadium lights)! They really do live in giant colonies.
I live in Austin, Texas and these birds are not native though they've been noted since the 1960's. I've seen their nests on the East side of town and a little north of us but this is a first sighting of them in a close neighborhood.
They've been here since the 1960's and are spreading slowly into different neighborhoods. They're gorgeous but I bet they're hell on the native species. They're pretty intimidating at the bird feeders!

Aww, that's cute that even the dog was speechless, or barkless. :)
