Only thing I can hope is that eventually the rich *will* get too rich, the middle class will disappear, and the poor will finally wake the hell up. Then we'll have another revolution. The bourgeois never last very long without the coushy middle-class as a buffer zone. And, not to be nitpicky, but privacy isn't actually guaranteed under the Constitution. The Supreme Court has ruled in the past that privacy can be inferred in certain areas, but it's not guaranteed (hence a highly conservative court could rule the president's current actions legal, and then there goes civil rights). Don't get me wrong here, I agree with you completely on that stuff and how bleak the future of America is (hence one reason I'd like to move to either Canada or Britain). And as far as capitalism vs. socialism, give me socialism *any* day. I saw an interesting commercial the other day, which could be used as a perfect example of why to institute at *least* socialised healthcare, but was instead used to promote Blue Shield (or some other HMO/PPO/private insurance). It was some guy got in this horrific accident and was healed. But then it came time to pay the bill and he was highly in debt (like $100,000 or something like that). He couldn't pay it outright, so the accountant said they'd liquidate his assets and see if that covers the debt. And all the while I was thinking to myself, but if we had a system like Canada's this wouldn't even be an issue. He'd be covered, maybe have to pay some *small* fees, but it wouldn't be an issue. He could keep his car and house and not be financially ruined to the point of not being able to afford food or shelter for himself. But I'll end this rant since it's getting long. Good points all of them (good for you and your research, bad for America that those points even exist). I grew tired of this country since 9/11 actually. We've only gone downhill from there. And we will continue so long as the neo-cons are in charge. I honestly can't figure out *how* people can be republicans if they're not filthy rich. After all, the rich would be all about tax cuts for rich people. But poor people? WTF?

And along with all these other problems, we have a bunk political system. We've been pushed into a two party system where we debate between two parties who aren't even sure what they stand for. So people just give up on the system or "waste" their votes on third parties that have no hope of winning. I could go into a rant about the political system, but I won't. Let's just put it this way: America will continue to screw us in the ass (highly unpleasantly) until people either wake up and revolt OR until America ends up screwing its citizens so much they can't take any more and the country collapses. We should really take a note from countries that have been around since forever (like basically all of Europe and Asia)
