February at
ushobwri was all about picking a WIP and making major headway on it. I should have been working on my Sentinel vamp fic, which was my intention. Instead I found myself inspired by an SGA/Labyrinth movie fusion. I got it almost completely written in February, so that was successful. And now it's finished and posted on AO3! Yay!
It's called
Within You. Roughly 23k words that follow Rodney's journey through the Labyrinth to save his sister.
Writing movie fusions is so fun, because there's already a plot structure to work with. Some good dialogue too, if you can make it work with the particular characters you're throwing into the storyline. The best part is switching things up to fit both the movie and the fandom that's being fused to it.
Funny thing is, despite the other fandoms I write for, the only movie fusion ideas I get are for SGA. I wonder why that is. Hmmm.
I have a lot of bunnies and WIPs that are movie fusions. A couple of months ago I got the idea to do Parent Trap, but was stuck on the plot, which made no sense and wouldn't be possible unless both parents were complete dicks. This week, thanks to lots of input from the amazing Shoobies at
ushobwri I fixed the plot problem and now, if I do get around to writing this, it will be so much better.
I also need to finish these SGA movie fusions, which are at least a quarter written, some of them almost halfway done:
- Way Down Deep: My take on Journey to the Center of the Earth, set in the 1950s. I love this, but the actual logistics of packing for a trip to the Earth's core? Ridiculous. Movies have it so much easier, they can just gloss over that stuff.
- Fortune & Glory: The Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom fic. This has actually been pretty easy to write, I just need to sit down and bust more of it out.
- Kisses Like Wine: This is a fusion of French Kiss, the Meg Ryan/Kevin Kline movie. I was supposed to have finished it last year for a friend of mine's birthday, but that didn't happen. Not sure it's any likelier to happen this year. There's some really good dialogue, though, so I really need to get to it soon.
And there are many bunnies. Some are just quick notes, others are pages of notes because the idea just won't leave me alone. Will they all see the light of day? Who knows. I'd like them to, but with so many projects constantly in the works I can only get to so many.
Is there any particular movie fusion you'd like to see with our SGA boys?
