SGA Author Appreciation - Popkin16
For popkin16’s SGA Author Appreciation Week.
Today I’m reccing Popkin herself. What do you need to know about her? She leaves the most wonderful, thoughtful comments on my fics - I love getting one of her comments, they always make me smile! Popkin is still a very staunch supporter of all things Stargate Atlantis, which is wonderful for the writers like me who are still very much entrenched in the fandom.
Here are four of my favorite Popkin fics in the SGA fandom, though you should go right ahead and read everything else she has on AO3. You won’t be disappointed!
The Work of Mourning
Summary: Once a year, per tradition, the expedition gathers on a pier, paper lanterns in hand.
If this fic doesn’t break your heart in about a hundred different ways, you must be made of stone. There are lots of team feels, lots of McShep feels…there are feels all over the damn place! The character insights are superb all around. There’s a happy ending, thank goodness, but the bulk of this will make you cry. It’s so worth it.

Nature Intended
Summary: It bothered Rodney that it bothered John. Didn’t John know Rodney would love him no matter what?
Just a little domestic fic, but I love it to pieces. Rodney is often written as the one with body image issues, and it’s nice to see that turned around. This fic also shows Rodney’s insight into John’s character, and the patience he has when it’s something that really matters. And something bothering John definitely matters to Rodney. It’s sweet and fluffy and affirming!

Magnetic Properties of Orange Fleece
Summary: Atlantis' return to the Pegasus Galaxy lands them on a cold planet. Rodney brings out the fleece. John is captivated.
Written for the SGA…10 Years Later Fest, this fic is a wonderful homage to Rodney’s orange fleece. The fabric of legend! LOL! It certainly has a desirable effect on John. This could have turned into a simple PWP piece, but instead it’s a lovely character study of John and the feelings that the fleece inspires in him. And Rodney’s reaction is pure Rodney gold!

Summary: Rodney's life is not a bad porno, but the ridiculously attractive pizza guy that knocks on his door one night kind of makes him wish it was.
Popkin probably won’t be thrilled that I included this one, but I can’t help it…it’s so good! It’s no secret that I love an AU and this is a pretty good one. Our boys in college, being all awkward and ridiculous. The best part of this, for me, is that John is the one who notices Rodney and makes the first move. The whole fic is just a lot of fun!
