Molly was going over the cheer routine again just to make sure she hadn't overlooked anything. She knew she hadn't, but it gave her something to do other than worry about Karal meeting one of her friends from home this weekend. She kind of hoped that it was Karolina who was coming since she would be least likely to try and intimidate him. Chase coming again would be fun though. Especially if he brought Old Lace with him.
Her speculations were interrupted when her cell phone rang.
Molly saw the number was from home and picked up right away. "Hello?"
"Hey Molly," Nico said from the other end. "How's it going?"
Molly's smile was evident in her voice. "Hey, Nico! Things are good. Have you guys decided who's coming yet? If it's Chase and he brings Old Lace again, there might be a few double takes. But, as long as he keeps her close there shouldn't be a problem."
"Sorry, you don't get a dinosaur this time," Nico said. "Unless things go more wrong than usual with the Staff. Think you can put up with me for three days?"
There was a brief pause of surprise. "You're coming? That's awesome!" Molly was happy that Nico was coming, but now knew that the rest of her evening would be spent giving her room an even more thorough cleaning. "When do you think you'll arrive?"
"It *is* completely awesome. I'm psyched to finally see your school for myself," Nico said, hoping as always that she would live up to Molly's expectations. "I'll probably get there late tomorrow afternoon. There wasn't an earlier flight."
"Okay," Molly said. "I've got a room reserved at the hotel. I'll call and put your name on it. There's a welcome thing, but is there anything specific you want to do tomorrow night?"
"Think your boy will be around?," Nico asked immediately. "'Cause we were hoping I could check him out. If your trip with him went okay and everything, I mean. But if that doesn't work, we could just go to the pizza place and talk."
Molly winced. Ah well, might as well get it out of the way as soon as possible. "The trip was fine," Molly said, trying not to sound strained. "I'll have to see what he's up to tomorrow though. One of his friends said somebody might be coming to visit him too."
Nico recognized the tone in Molly's voice, and winced a little herself. It wasn't that she didn't want to be the heavy, exactly, but the whole boyfriend-interview thing was going to be way weird no matter how they did it. "No rush," she added. "If he has his own stuff, we'll catch him Saturday or something. Good to hear the trip was okay. So what did you guys do there?"
"You know how I told you Karal was an envoy? Well, he isn't anymore and the trip was just for him to hand over the position," Molly explained. No matter how much it made Karal happy to say it, Molly was not going to use the phrase 'lost his job' to Nico. "It was mostly business, but I got to meet a friend of his and he gave me a partial tour of the city. It was fun."
"Sounds cool, you'll have to tell me more when I get there," Nico said, and there was a clatter in the background. "Argh, I should get off the phone before the fight over the PlayStation turns physical. See you soon, Moll."
"Okay. Bye, Nico! Say hi to everyone for me and I'll see you tomorrow."
Molly hung up the phone and let out a breath, then paled as a realization struck her. "Oh, frell," she said to the empty room. "She's going to find out I'm a cheerleader."
