Molly was still exhausted when she finally got out of bed. And freezing. The first thing she did was pull another hat over the one she usually slept in. Figuring that moving would probably help her both wake up and warm up, she started to get ready for the day.
After spending what seemed like forever with her morning routine, she walked back to her room with a mug of hot chocolate. It would have to do in place of caffeine until she could find someone who could provide her with hot coffee that was sweet enough for her to tolerate drinking. A cold soda just wouldn't do this morning.
The shadow struck as she opened the door to her room. Her eyes widened, but she didn't even have time to gasp before the darkness swelled up before her. It swept through her in an instant and was gone. Molly was frozen in her doorway. The mug fell to the floor, spraying chocolate everywhere, as the handle passed right through the fingers that still clutched it.
The sound of the mug bouncing and clattering as it struck was enough to get Molly moving again. Her chest felt like it had been filled with ice and she curled around it as she staggered into the room, leaving the door open behind her. Making her way across the room, she pulled a blanket off of her bed and wrapped it around her. Shaking she slumped to the edge of the bed and tried to regain her equilibrium.
