I own the World's Smallest Laptop

Tris and I were going to clean/organize the new Youth Leader Workroom this afternoon, but thought we'd check out St. Vincent de Paul and see if they had any cheap desks. They didn't. Then we had a thought: "Hey! It'd be cool if we could put a keyboard in there for the worship desk! That way if someone wants to work on a song/learn keyboard, there's one in there."

So we went to radioshack, but I really didn't care for the keyboards they had. Before we left, though, we took a look at the Clearance table, where we found a TINY Acer Laptop for $80.

Wait, what?

Well, it wasn't exactly $80. It was $80 if you entered into a 2-year AT&T contract for 3G coverage at $60 a month. Without that, it was $400. So we looked at it, Tris called Rich, read the specs, and he said it was a really good deal.

Unfortunately, AT&T sucks. They require a $500 deposit for new customers. Crap. Crap crap crap. There was no way I could afford that (we discovered this at the register -- the clerk was cool and called AT&T to try to reduce the deposit, but no go). So we left, went to K-Mart to look at desks, and then one of us had a thought (I'm not sure if it was Tris or me): It's too bad we can't put it on Tris' AT&T account.

Tris called Rich, they talked for a minute, and then we went back to RadioShack. I bought the laptop, but Tris and Rich hold the contract for the 3G service. So for the next two years, I'll be giving them $67 a month, plus any overage charges for exceeding the 3G data limit thingys.

So now I have a laptop which doesn't have a CD drive, but that's okay: I've got a DVD burner at home that will probably work, and if it doesn't, I can buy an external disc drive and install it on here.

And to show you how tiny it is...
