My Grandpa Warrington pass away in his sleep yesterday. He was 85, retired pilot in WWII. It's tough because I've always went to Yakima for the holidays and saw him since I could remember, this years' holidays are going to be missing a special person. He was a very significant man in my life.
One of my fondest memory with my grandpa was when I was 15. My parents had gone on vacation for the week and I was taking care of myself for those days. Well, I was riping up the skate park and managed to take a bad fall and broke my ankle. I called my grandpa from the hospital and he rushed over to get me. He took me to his house and cared for me. I remember sitting in his recliner, with my foot elevated, it looked awful. He told me stories about the war and how he was a sort of ambassador to Japan post war. Ever since then I have been fascinated with the History Channel... I also remember going up in his plane as a small child he had a twin engine Piper Comanche it was red and white. He loved everything about aviation and could talk for hours about it. He had some health issues and had retire from flying. After that we would go to the airport diner and watch the planes land.... He taught me how to be passionate about life and to do whatever I wanted to do. He supported me in my snowboard career, and always asked me when i was going to cut my hair.
Every time I visited him in the recent years, he would ask me to work on his computer, and teach him how to do things with it. He told me he trusted no one else with his precious computer and complimented me on how amazing I was with it. I taught him how to e-mail people and to get his pictures off the camera to print them out. He would forward me no less than 3 forward bad internet jokes a day after i taught him e-mail, where normally you would tell that person to stop sending all this crap, I loved seeing it cause I knew he was ok. I think that was his way of checking in with everyone. I will miss those.
I will always remember and love you.
