Hana wa Saku ka - Hidaka Shoko

Hi, y'all!!!

It has been a long time since I posted something, right?

The reason is partly lack of imagination and partly laziness ˆˆ

Anyway, let me write this post before I become lazy again :)

I think I'm already known as the person who keeps changing her mind about mangakas, mangas, art styles, what is beautiful, what is not, well, you guys get the picture, right? I really am this confusing.

But I have come to the conclusion that the reason why my tastes change so much is because I am changing still. Having started reading yaoi at the early age of 16 ( It really has been 4 years already?? Wow!), I can say my thoughts and opinions about what makes a good yaoi, or to be more exact, a good story has changed. It still doesn't mean I will stop reading my no brainers, like Fujisaki Kou and Mishima Kazuhiko, but has opened my eyes to great story tellers and characters builders like Yoneda Kou, Suzuki Tsuta and now I can say Hidaka Shouko.

Ok, ok, It is not that I hated her or anything, I have always liked Arashi no Ato, especially because of the cover, one of the best in my opinion. And I don't know why, I've just always found it very good!

(And while I was re-reading it this past two days, that is how I found the sudden desire to read more stuff by her, I also noticed again how much I liked the quite realistic approach for homossexuality. The way the main character hides it at the same time that he doesn't, the prejudice found behind a somehow harmless comment. Very, veeeeery good!)

Now let's talk about the reaaaaal image changer of day: Hana wa Saku wa!

(WHAT IS UP WITH THIS WOMAN AND HER COVERS? THEY ARE SOOOO GORGEOUS!!)

Let's keep the focus!! Focus! Focus! FOOOCUS!

The beginning is really slow, there are things happening, and you keep thinking where this is going to lead us ( Yes, we know who the couple is going to be, but remember, the most important is THE HOW!). The relationship build really slowly, beginning with a dislike that comes from a real first impression of real personalities, that just doesn't seem to clash well together.

But then at the ending of the first volume things starts to show themselves, and when the second starts, it never stops then. Feelings started to come to the surface, and some action FINALLY happens!! (I'm not going to say exactly when, you are gonna have to read it)

I think what I liked the most about this story, what I think is the real trait of Hidaka Shoko's writing, is her subtlety.

Although we have the main character "narrating" the story, I don't think they are that open about what they are feeling, it is always somehow concealed behind their words.

It is like she is not putting into words what is happening, she is not "narrating", she is simply showing us.

And what about the characters then?

Handsome men, but nothing outworldly. But what really calls your attention to them is the looks, the use of the image, the way their faces hides and gives them away as well.

It is great to see Sakurai ( the man in the second volume's cover) changing without noticing. Finding passion once again. And how his feet somehow ends up one way or another leading him back to Youichi.

And then, there is Youichi. Mysterious and actually not so quiet Youichi. He is somewhat arrogant, at the same time that he isn't, just honest, especially with Sakurai. It is good to his feelings showing up in little actions and lines.

I think this is all I have to say for now ˆˆ

I'm in the middle of the moment where I'm trying to convice myself to download Yuuutsu na Asa, because the last time I started to read it, I didn't quite enjoy it, but since I've just said that I'm always changing my mind, maybe I will found that I like this time around (just like it happened with Aitsu no Daihonmei :)
