Now the girl had a renewed spirit, though and ripped into the enemy. The Zearth was simply too strong for the other robot to withstand. She ripped it open to the cockpit and paused. It seemed everyone was wondering if Kana would be able to finish the battle - even Captain Tanaka. Because of that, she got distracted and another fighter jet hit her plane. She was able to eject, but the enemy robot sent out a sort of rescue tube that latched around her and pulled next to it. Now if Kana wanted to attack, she’d have to kill Captain Tanaka as well. The young girl couldn’t do it and the enemy robot picked up the offensive. Machi asked Dung Beetle if he could teleport Captain Tanaka, but he could not. Ushiro just told Kana to fight back - if she didn’t, they would die. Ushiro told her Captain Tanaka was going to die anyway - she was part of the contract. …But Kana retorted that Captain Tanaka was his mother. Captain Tanaka…was Ushiro’s mother. She told Ushiro he would be the last one - it would be his job to gather new pilots for the next world, like Garaku did. He would have a support to help him. She started to ask her brother if he could choose the next Dung Beetle, but Ushiro asked her something: If he didn’t gather pilots, what would happen? She assumed the battle would continue and he would have to fight - what would gather people would be his Earth’s final battle. She hypothesized that each Earth was effected by the one before it and asked her brother if she was right, but he coldly told her to stop asking him. She was surprised for a moment but her expression softened. He eventually said it was possible - it was even possible for the cycle to circle back around, though he had no idea how long it would be - ten years, ten thousand years - it was all up in the air. They spent the rest of the day with Waku’s parents, telling them about the nature study summer camp trip. Ushiro had an amazing memory - he was able to recount things Machi never even noticed. Dung Beetle had helped them as well. Before the trip, they asked him about the other pilots, for he could watch them when the others couldn’t. They learned more about their dead friends than they’d ever dreamed of. Waku’s parents, in turn, showed the two pictures of their son. They slept in Waku’s house that night. The next morning, they set out for the next house and Machi teased Ushiro about how he’d introduced himself with “Boku” at Waku’s house (it is a very formal way of saying “I” and he usually didn’t use it). She clarified that though they’d only known each other for a few months, it wasn’t like they’d just met.
