It's been a while. Sorry about that.
Today was the first day all year that I felt like the teacher I was last year. I'm not sure what it was that triggered it. But I found that confidence that made my job fun again, that feeling of being able to rib my students and myself, that apathy about what teenagers think of me, the courage to call them whiners if need be (and it did need be today). I feel comfortable, and it's nice. I feel like my job, as annoying and overwhelming as it can be at times, is a passion again.
Also, today was the first day that I wore my winter coat.
Emily just got home and we're about to go look around for Halloween costume materials. The entire English department is going to be "Elementary School Teachers." For women, it might mean wearing a denim jumper, apple earrings, and gaudy broaches with rulers on them, but I'm not sure what it'd be like for men. I think a cardigan, probably, and a Looney Tunes tie. But I'm hoping I can find a sweater vest with a school bus or an alphabet line or something. And maybe I'll comb my hair all cheesy.
Also: just in case, I found a fake mustache...MADE OF REAL HUMAN HAIR!!! Guys, I'm not even kidding.
