we are so lucky. im sure when the next massive earthquake hits i wont be of the same frame of mind, but look at new orleans. those people are all under water. everything they have; food, clothing, shelter, safety, is all gone. can you even imagine if something like that happened to you tomorrow and all of a sudden instead of worrying about your asshole coworker or a petty fight you had with your bf/gf, you had to think about where you could go so you wouldnt drown, starve or be raped by passing gangs with guns they looted from the tattered city?
a city that was a land mark in the united states, famous for its food, lifestyle and mardi gras, dotted with bits of history unique to the south, washed away in the hurricane and all those people with it. a child was raped in the superdome. people are trying to jump 50 ft. to their death because they have nothing left to live for. there is absolutely no fresh water in a city of thousands of stranded refugees.
did you know that the tsunami in indonesia brought on the biggest surge of monetary donations and international help in history? granted, the rest of the world hates us, so its probably not fair to ask them to bail us out, but we can help. from all the way across the US in our pretty little bubble, we can send money. you all have a few bucks to spare so that babies dont have to reuse their diapers. those people need help.
