So we all know that the Republican wackaloons (that would be all of them, right now) in Congress are busy at work making sure that this country stands a most excellent chance of defaulting on its payments because of their absolutely beknighted resistance to any kind of reasonable inter-party work on a budget. (IOW: “no taxes! no taxes nooooooo taaaaaaaaxes!”). I mean, you get it. I get it. The Republicans are holding strong against any kind of tax increase, no matter what, no matter the cost to the country and so on and so forth. It even reached this point Obama Uses Social Security To Tighten Noose Around The GOP’s Neck where he warned the public that Social Security payments could stop going out on August 2, if the Republicans didn’t back off.
But the Republicans still don’t get it. What did they say in response? Oh, let me show you:
Republican lawmakers are pushing President Obama to put seniors, troops, and bondholders at the front of the line should Congress fail to raise the debt ceiling. The rest? Well, that’s up to him.
“We’re just calling on the president to assume the role of CEO and prioritize accordingly,” Rep. Rick Crawford (R-AR) said at a press conference on the issue. Participants repeatedly accused Obama of trying to “scare seniors” by suggesting Social Security payments might be suspended in the wake of a default crisis.

I mean, just what is this? The budget impasse is completely owned by the Republicans: the Democrats have made many, many concessions on their side, which the Republicans simply shoot down. A balanced budget will take both tax cuts (to which Democrats have agreed, up to a point) and tax revenue (to which the Republicans have completely and utterly shut down). You tell me where the bottleneck on the budget talks is.
This is crazy-making. Someone wake me up when the Republican party is populated with adults again.
