At Easter, I love going to an Augustinian university. We don't have school after class on Wednesday until next Tuesday because of Easter. I'm actually skipping class on Wednesday for a doctor's appointment and driving to BU today after class. Get to spend a little time with Jason before heading home. I'm excited to dye eggs and do Mom's easter egg hunt. She always gives us these written riddles that tell us where to find our eggs. It's actually a little challenging. Our last clue always leads us to our basket! Sometimes we have the McCaffrey kiddies over to do an egg hunt in our front yard because they're so cute and it's fun to play with little kids at Easter. We usually go to St. Mary's for church. Way back when, we used to go to midnight mass at our Greek Orthodox church in Mansfield. That was pretty cool because they do an extensive ceremony with candles. It's really exhausting because the mass is usually over 2 hours long and it's hard to stay awake that late at night.
Dad's taking off the Friday before Easter, which will be nice because I'll get to spend a little extra time with him. I have (another) doctor's appointment and then we're going to go down to visit a breeder in Falmouth. Tricia and Colleen from the LMNtree house got their labs from this breeder, so he's been recommended to us. I'm excited that this puppy thing might actually work out!
St. Patrick's Day this year was pretty uneventful. Saturday night after the workshop and after Acapellapalooza, I went out with Dan and Kevin and Maryann, which was a litle bit of a surprise because they nnnnever go out. We met up with the rest of the gang at Kelly's and hung out there for a few hours. Everyone was surprisingly under control considering they had been out at the Main Line bars since 4:30pm. Saturday was the main celebration and not many people were going out last night. I wasn't really in the mood anyways--I needed to pack and be able to get to my 8:30 class today.
The poetry workshop finished up surprisingly well. Sunday we all got together and exchanged poems then offered comments and suggestions on one poem from everybody. The poem that I revised was "A Day at Work"--revisions below. Very minor changes, but I think they were helpful.
A Day at Work
Alone she rereads the memorized family recipe,
Lips pursed, cheeks flushed.
White cabinets, chairs, walls match
The snow outside and the flour in her dark hair.
Her pale skin is no contrast.
Confined to her chore, she persists.
He returns-exhausted and testy.
Together they eat in silence.
