I've been shilly-shallying on reading this one, based on qualms about the title. So thank you for your view - those issues would make me uncomfortable too. I'll give it a miss for now.
"I didn't like this book because it failed to confirm to my worldview" sounds like the kind of thing that someone conservative would say about a novel with a same-sex love story, so it feels weird to say. But I think it can be said legitimately, and a book that unabashedly, uncritically sets "a white South African as the agent of justice, law, and righteousness, and a Black woman as the agent of superstition, perversion, and evil" and justifies the Salem witch trials... yeah. I think it would annoy me, too.
That it's well-written means it gets its point across. I think you're still allowwed to disagree with the point.
