Expressing himself in Catalán, naturally.
So, I had this whole entry here where I bibbled happily about El Teniente Negro, a mysterious comic, or possibly magazine seemingly published in Spain in 1962. I was about to post it, and then I realized that textually "negro" (neɡɾo) looks just like "negro" (niɡɾɵ)* and I was not really comfortable with someone coming upon my lj and misreading the one for the other. The whole thing was further complicated by the fact that apparently (one of?) the writer(s), Silver Kane, was better known for his contribution to the Novela Negra, which is to say, noir writing.
That said! El Teniente Negro seems to be about the adventures of a Black Union officer, or snake wrestler in the American West. The printing process being what it is, he doesn't always look especially Black, but pictures like this lead me to think 'Black' is more than just his name. He swings from chandeliers and scares the gentry!
And wikipedia doesn't seem to have any clue about it, so it is a mystery! In sum: Viñetas is awesome.
