I'm with Sarah on this. Often, that last sex scene is... really dull. And yeah, part of it *is* that schmoop is incredibly difficult to do well -- it has to be in-character *and* interesting *and* sugary -- but... yeah. A lot of it is that it's hard to make a *truly* pointless sex scene feel like anything but.

I've been writing ungodly amounts of porn for eight years now, and I *know* I still flub it -- and flub it to the point that it stops working for *me*.

Honestly, I've come to think it's better to, whenever possible, *not* end on the sex scene -- distance can mask problematic pointlessness.

Granted, I'm nowhere near as much of a fan of this kind of story as you are (to the point where I'm actually kind of ashamed of "So false as to be true" to a degree I normally reserve for stories which feel "incorrect" to me), but... yeah. The emo porn is most often most *effectively* conveyed, in schmoop, via means *other than sex*.

Which is not to say characters shouldn't ever Make SWEEEET Love -- perish the thought. Just... I wonder if it doesn't *work* better for the reader if the sweet love is given a nice, big *setting*.

And 200K of set-*up*... is not the same thing as a setting, at all.
