July Chronicle

The phone call kept playing over and over in his head. "Marius, I'm not going to be able to attend the gathering. In my absence, as Seneschal, you'll have the powers of Prince." He smiled and nodded once, then left Thomas in his office. "Prince for a second time, for a second night." he mused.

He thought about the upcoming gathering. The Dracul would be hosting, so he knew Julian would take care of business and just worried about the troublesome Carthians. "They wouldn't cause a disruption when one of their own is Prince, would they?" That never came to be, as Marius was both a bit shocked and appalled by the display put forth by the Dragons.

In the middle of the gathering stood a decent sized box made of plexi-glass. All around the plexi-glass was roaches, cats, pigeons and rats. Inside the plexi-glass box was even worse; a homeless man taking in everything. Julian's explanation was simple and in a scientific manner, made sense, but on a humanity level, it was disheartening.

A man, who probably not by choice, though statistics would say it was his choice was homeless. Everything the man owned, he carried with him on a day to day basis. Had he lost everything dear to him? Probably yes. Now, chances are his life would be taken from him. At the very best, his memories would be taken.

Marius made an effort to speak with as many people as he could so he could gather their opinions and thoughts on the homeless man and what to do with him. Many felt he should be killed, as sometimes memories came back. Others said to let him go, no one would believe him anyhow. While others said to fix his memories. If he'd get a new lease on life, Marius felt he should have his memories "fixed." But his gut told him that the man needed to be killed. A risk to the masquerade would endanger everyone.

Felipe ended up fixing his memories and releasing him. Marius only hoped that Felipe worked a miracle and gave the man a new chance. Not just take his memories and throw him back out. Like the way fisherman do for sport with fish. Maybe choosing to fix him was Felipe's way of giving back to humanity. Only time would tell if it was the right choice. Hopefully for the Dracul and Julian it would be.

Another surprise. Mr. Greene decided to once again grace the court of New York with his presence. The bigger surprise was seeing Merced in his face and really looking like he was aching to stake him. What wasn't a surprise was the Greene was still holding to the thought that everyone owed him. Perhaps we all did. He did pay a rather large price.

And like last time, it made sense to help him. The Brood was in the Bronx. Simon and Paulson had a fix on where to find them. With Thomas not being available, it was Marius' decision whether to attack. Marius didn't kid himself, he knew that with the information at hand, both of them would go regardless. Marius had to decide whether or not to send them in with no backup. In the end, he couldn't do it and gave his blessing to the war party.

Simon had picked out his group, so Marius picked out his. Julian, Felipe and Moll. Three people he could trust with his life and three people he'd put his life on the line for. What he didn't expect was a third group was formed by people who wanted to help as well. A frank conversation with Paulson led Marius to believe that group would likely all perish in the attack. He could pull out, but decided that if they were willing to help, why deny them that or take away additional soldiers from the fight.

It was agreed that they all would meet by the handball courts right outside Yankee Stadium at 1am. Marius gathered his group and talked strategy. They weren't bruisers, but they could do just as much damage with their own powers. Marius would make sure they were all well hidden getting in and out. The others would use their respective powers to assist Simon's group. The only thing to do now was to wait. And everyone knows, waiting sucks.
