History:
Minatsuki Takami started her life well-adjusted in a comfortable family comprised of herself, her older brother Yoh, her mother and her father. This picturesque lifestyle didn't last long unfortunately, and at age 7 Minatsuki's world was destroyed by a tragic event. An earthquake so large it sunk 70% of the city and was eventually dubbed the Great Tokyo Earthquake struck her home city while she was at home with her mother. Like any scared child would do, she reached out and clung to her mother's arm for support. But instead of being comforted and protected, she was shaken off as the frightened older woman abandoned her for her own safety. In that split-second moment, frozen with shock, Minatsuki realized that humanity was comprised of selfish assholes and that there wasn't one worth trusting in the entire population.
This was where Minatsuki's downward spiral began.
After her mother shook her off, Minatsuki's Branch of Sin activated, and she killed her mother during the earthquake. In her own words, that was the moment she 'became a liar.' When she found her brother and her father after the incident, expression blank and shell-shocked, and they asked her where her mother was, she answered with "I don't know. Shopping?"
After that moment, Minatsuki's personality turned ugly. She manipulated the people who loved her into giving her what she wanted without even bothering to care for their well-being. Outwardly, she was the same sweet and innocent girl she had always been. Inwardly, she was a monster who hated humanity and thought everyone who died deserved what they got. It's strongly hinted at that her father became cold and cruel after her mother's death, and that she even was physically abused by him on several occasions (with her brother Yoh, who had vowed to protect her from the moment the earthquake ended, often stepping in to stop it). She killed more than just her mother throughout the years as well; a dog who trampled her flowers, a counselor who attempted to help her, and eventually she tired of her father's abuse and killed him as well. She set up this scene to make it seem like her father attempted to take advantage of her, and manipulated it so Yoh walked in just as it was happening. After the murder of her father, she was arrested and thrown into a prison called Deadman Wonderland, and her unique abilities found her locked away into a private sector known as Sector G; the sector they kept those gifted with the Branch of Sin and forced them to fight each other like gladiators.
It was through these fights, the Carnival Corpse, that Minatsuki found herself an outlet for her violent and manipulative ways. She 'befriended' (used in the loosest term possible, because Minatsuki didn't make friends) as she spent her years honing her Branch of Sin skills through fight after fight after fight. She was given the name 'Hummingbird,' for the quick way she wielded her whips. It's hinted that she lost her fair share of battled in the Carnival Corpse however, because every time a Deadman lost a fight, they were to forfeit an organ to the scientists of Deadman Wonderland for research (Minatsuki mentions that she already lost her kidney and part of her stomach). Nevertheless, Minatsuki's lifestyle went on this way until age 17, when eventually she was paired against newcomer Ganta Igarashi-- code name Woodpecker. She manipulated Ganta into believing she needed protection, but during the fight her true, vulgar personality came out. She spoke of how sick humanity made her and how she enjoyed the expression people made when they realized that the cute innocent girl she pretended to be wasn't her true face.
During this fight, Minatsuki's brother Yoh leaped into the arena to protect her. After Minatsuki's arrest, Yoh got himself thrown into Deadman Wonderland as well to find and free her. At first, Minatsuki defaulted to her sweet, innocent girl personality with him, until it was revealed that Yoh knew all along that she wasn't as pure as she claimed to be, and that she had killed people mercilessly. He claimed not to care, however, vowing to continue to protect her like he always did. Angered by this revelation, Minatsuki used Yoh as a shield, but was eventually defeated by both Ganta's ricocheting bullet and a headbutt.
This was the second major turning point of Minatsuki's life.
After the fight, while Minatsuki was recovering, her brother stepped in to save her from a falling shelf. Surprised by his actions-- more specifically, the fact that someone would risk their well-being to save her-- she asked if he was okay, and then was promptly irritated by his obvious lie of a response. Due to her loss in the Carnival Corpse, she was set to lose another organ to the science department. Ganta and Yoh both scrambled to find ways to save her, and for the first time in years she allowed herself to get her hopes up. They were dashed at first when it seemed like both of them failed to help her, but when the lottery machine that determined which body part she would have to give up landed on 'hair,' she was genuinely relieved.
Personality:
As for Minatsuki's personality... well, to sum it all up, Minatsuki is a bit... twisted, and it all started with her mother abandoning her during the Great Tokyo Earthquake. She curses, she's violent, she's vulgar, she's manipulative, and she takes enjoyment in seeing other people in pain so much that she actually proclaims to get off to it. She puts on a front of people, acting like a cute, innocent, defenseless little girl to lower their guards, and when they least expect it, she reveals her true person to them to laugh at the shocked expressions they make. In the beginning, she cares about no one but herself, because there isn't a person in the world she can trust. Humanity is filled with slimy, selfish liars, and she's no different than the general populace. She has no illusions about who she is; no illusions about how she manipulates and injures to get what she wants. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there and the only way to survive is to not trust.
This mostly changes during her fight with Ganta, and her subsequent reunion with her brother, Yoh. For the first time in years Minatsuki witnesses someone showing a concern for her well-being despite the fact that they know how much of a monster she is. The genuine concern that Ganta and Yoh express 'mess with her,' in her own words, and for the first time she allows herself to feel a glimmer of hope. This hope is rewarded when Ganta convinces Owl to rig the slot machine that would determine which body part Minatsuki would give up to land on hair. For the first time in years, Minatsuki sees a glimmer of humanity she thought didn't exist. This event doesn't completely cure her mistrusting ways, however. She still remains emotionally reserved (refusing to claim that she has friends), broken, angry, violent, and a bit messed up, but she doesn't display psychopathic tendencies nearly as heavily as she did before. She still takes pleasure in either witnessing or causing pain for others, and she still has doubts about humanity and finds it difficult to trust people, but she's slowly coming around. Despite the fact that she has a long way to go, it finally seems like Ganta, Yoh and the other Deadmen are having an effect on her.
Even so, this doesn't mean Minatsuki doesn't have her relapses. She has her buttons, and she tends to get very, very emotional and violently enraged when those buttons are pressed. One of those buttons used to be the way her mother abandoned her, and although bringing up the incident might cause her to go off angrily and beat someone up to make herself feel better, she's finally come to terms with it (as it seems in chapter 33). Another one of those buttons is her trust issues. Minatsuki might not trust fully, but when what little trust she has to offer is earned, she gets pissed when it's broken. Minatsuki's mindset is very fragile, and even if she's making progress, it's fully possible for her to relapse completely (as she almost did when Ganta 'betrayed' the Deadmen and helped a Forgery).
Minatsuki isn't completely and 100% defined by her violent, broken, and distrustful ways, though. Like any teenage girl, she takes pleasure in certain feminine things. Her prison cell overflows with flowers, which she cares for diligently and threatens to maim those who try to destroy it. She has a soft spot for cute animals, though she tends to get grumpy about this (in one chapter, she even says 'you little fucker, why are you not uncute' to an adorable little armadillo). Despite her vulgarity (and her complete disregard for censorship), she even blushes when people walk in on her changing (and then proceeds to beat the crap out of them or throw death threats at them).
In a nutshell, Minatsuki is a messed up girl who has a lot of trauma in her life to make up for. She's still broken, and nothing in the world will miraculously 'fix' her in one go. Even so, she's beginning to form attachments and make friends (much to her dismay). And maybe, just maybe, one day she'll learn to cope in healthier ways. But for now, she remains the violent and uncensored tsundere she is.
Magical Powers/Weapons/Skills:
+the collar:
This is the very bulky, blinking, mechanical device around her neck. As Minatsuki was imprisoned for a life sentence at DW, this collar is impossible to remove and doses out a daily amount of poison. If she doesn't eat a bitter, candy shaped antidote once every three days, she dies. Luckily, the hotel seemed to decide to provide her with a huge bag of them.
+branch of sin:
The whole reason she was given the death sentence was for killing her father with her Branch Of Sin, which is her ability to - if she has an open wound that is bleeding - activate her power and create several whips branching from her hair. The more she bleeds, the weaker her attack. And although this can be a very deadly skill, she is rather physically weak when compared to other people.
+hummingbird:
If you're familiar with the movie 'Death Race', Deadman Wonderland was much like that in the essence that they pitted the skilled/special/Deadman or those with Branches of Sin against one another for viewer entertainment. Each member was given a bird name to symbolize them to the public eye, and Minatsuki was known as the 'Hummingbird', as she is very, very fast.
Other Abilities:
[I don't know if this will count, buuuuut…]
+the facade:
Mina is manipulative. She will often play the diminutive, weak, and girlish role if she thinks you have a hero complex and need to protect her. She did this to Ganta, only to injure him and attempt to kill him the next day, so do not expect any sort of real affection to be shown in the same simpering, shy, blushing ways she will fake it with. True affection with Minatsuki is much like a little boy throwing rocks at the girl he likes; yes, she is a little boy.

[the feed clicks on to a rather bedraggled looking girl blinking at the camera screen. there is a rustling and a calming breath from this end of the line and a slight, indecisive sigh before she starts to speak in a very timid, shy voice.]
Um…I don't want to be a bother or anything, but could someone please tell me if there's any empty rooms around here? preferably with a lot of sunlight and…um...
[a self conscious giggle goes here]
If someone could also tell me where I could get flower pots…See, I want to start a garden or something of my own and…
[Minatsuki's voice falters here and she seems to lose all the courage she summed up to say anything in the first place.]
Um…Sorry to bother any of you…n-never mind.
[and she leans forward with the intent of turning of the thingy - ONLY TO FAIL and, still thinking it's turned off, Minatsuki stands up and kicks something; this something sounds very breakable, and all but shatters off screen, but that sound is deafened by: ]
MotherFUCKER! Oh, this is one of your fucking games, isn't it!? Well, I'm not playing! You hear that?!
[another crash]
SHIT HEAD YOU DO NOT OWN ME! AND WHEN I GET MY BROTHER GETS HERE I WILL -
[she pauses. that thingy with the video function is still on.]
[...shit.]
Shit.
[feed terminated]
Third-Person Sample Post:
She stretched, languidly and relaxed. Hell, she was comfortable, surprisingly; huh, maybe she'd rolled out of bed and was sleeping on the floor again. But...that wasn't quite right, was it, as her floor was a tile and stone mixture, and what more, it was a floor, and thus cold. And she was actually quite warm, almost as if she had been outside in the courtyard on a particularly sunny day and had fallen asleep on the grass, but that also wasn't quite right; there were sheets beneath her body, sheets! Real, thread counted, not prison issued sheets.
Grudgingly, Minatsuki pried one eye open and almost immediately shut it. Ah, she thought. I get it; this is just some stupid dream and I'm going to wake up with some stupid kid bitching in my ear any second now. A dream would be the only reason she felt so...well, airy, and relaxed. She wasn't sore anymore, and rustling around under the sheets to bring a hand up to her head, she felt no goose egg there from where Ganta had headbutted her harshly. Eyes still closed, the slight brunette also determined that she was completely naked, and that the blinking collar from the prison was still around her neck.
"Fuuuuuuck," she drawled sleepily, quite sure this wasn't a damned dream anymore. With instincts born of one who had often been in risky situations such as waking up in unusual places, Minatsuki stopped, took a breath, and sat bolt up right in bed, clutching the sheet to her chest and whipping her head around furiously.
She was positive this was just some new punishment game from Deadman Wonderland; perhaps the promoter had expected her to beat the shit out of Woodpecker and was not pleased when she lost, nor when the only thing she'd lost to their "science" was her hair (and that, unlike her kidney or that bit of her stomach lining, would grow back) and had now dreamed up some other depraved way to torment her for public viewing. Well, she certainly wasn't having any of this.
"You've got some fucking sick sense of humor, you know that!?!" she screamed at the top of her lungs, refusing to cooperate with this damned game anymore. She was tired, and had only just woken up, and was just sick of it. Irritable, her brother would call her. And she, in turn, would tell him to shut the fuck up and mind his own business.
"ARGH!" Letting out a cry of indigence and annoyance, Minatsuki made to flop back onto the mattress top and pull the sheets over her head. Fuck the promoter; he could wait until she actually wanted to wake up.

Do you have any questions?:
Can I have a cookie?
Also, Minatsuki has the collar from DW which, if you're not familiar with the canon, poisons the wearer to death within three days if they don't eat a certain candy shaped antidote, and so I ask if she may have a rather large package of these candies until either she is sent back, or someone can get the collar off. However, for plot reasons, I'd prefer the goddess NOT just poof it off if that were a possibility, because it's a rather important issue in her canon and I'd hate to jeopardize any fun timez that may come up once she gets canon mates.
