Of course I believe in true love. Even in this day and age there are people who find each other, fall in love, marry, and spend the rest of their lives growing closer. It is rare because people today expect everything to be easy. They think that because they love someone all of the other pieces should just fall into place and it doesn't work that way. Love is the starting point. If you add respect, trust, commitment, and the willingness to work to keep your relationship healthy (plus a healthy dose of self-knowledge & maturity) you end up with a relationship that can weather the harshest storms. It isn't free and it isn't easy but it is worth the effort.
As for love at first sight, nature has provided us with a drive to reproduce. In an effort to help that along, there are some people in the world that we are chemically keyed to find attractive. It is purely chemistry and not the forces of the universe deciding that they two of you should be together. It isn't love, only attraction. That doesn't rule love out completely. That's why you hear stories about love at first sight. Still even if all of the unlikely elements line up in your favor for it to last all of the factors in the above paragraph have to come into play as well. You can't genuinely love someone you don't know any more than you can have a healthy relationship if you don't really know yourself.
