For those of you who pay attention to such things (or are stalking me), you may have noticed that I haven't posted for the last couple weeks. Christmas was, of course, part of that. The other part is the fact that I took a vacation. It's been 2 years since I've taken more than a day off, and those days were doing mundane tasks around the house and such.
This time, I took a week and headed up north. Well... Actually I headed almost due west. But since I ended up in Canada, it just feels like it should have been "up north". :)
Some of the pictures I took will be available in the gallery shortly
are now up in the gallery.
Anyway... the trip to Toronto was wonderful. I abused accepted the hospitality of my friend Berj for the week, and he took me out to see the sights. Admittedly, most of those sights entailed either ethnic food or alcohol, but I'm certainly not complaining. :) We spent several nights (including New Year's Eve) at a wonderful little dive called "Not My Dog" (
see review). The first night there were only 4 of us in the bar--including the owner. The 2nd night there was a great band called "Box Full of Cash"; a Johnny Cash cover band who was also doing Jame Brown tributes that night. The band is only 3 people: guitar/vocals, bass, percussion. I can't really call the last guy a "drummer" because he didn't have any drums. His instrument was a large cardboard box which he played using 2 whisk brooms as "drumsticks", and in place of a kick-drum, he just stomped his foot on the floor. It was great! New Years Eve was slightly more packed. This is the first time in 10 or 15 years that I've actually been awake to see the new year arrive. Normally, I find the whole thing to be highly overrated; however, several pints of Stella Artois, good music on the stereo, and an amazingly gorgeous (and quite intoxicated) young woman of middle-eastern ancestry (whose silly metro-sexual boyfriend most definitely did not deserve such an amazing young woman) made it all worth while.
Pix will be posted soon. I didn't take too many of them this trip; I was too busy doing things. :)
