It’s been awhile since we’ve last spoken. And ironically enough that is why I kept putting off a new update. After realizing I had gone this long without divulging another chapter of my rock-star lifestyle, I realized I was in too deep. My comeback had to be huge. A story that would be better then all others. One that would make me more myth then man. Legend status.
Don’t get me wrong. A lot has happened. There were quite a few memorable stories that I’m sure I could make seem more interesting than they really were if I felt like being long-winded. The day my dad told me there was money to be made in piracy, or my grandmother explaining how “The Jews” can make money off of anything. Or perhaps my brother’s wacky experience with food poisoning.
I drove to U of I at 1 in the morning with Sarah and Josh, then came back at 3 in the morning with Josh and an ET glass. And then there was that party I went to over Christmas break. The one where I had a 5 year-old girl on my back while an old chum had a 22 year-old girl on his arm. A 55 year-old man with a Ph.D. asked my friend where he was going to grad school. A four-year-old boy named Christopher asked me my favorite color. It was one of the best times I’ve had in awhile.
I was on national TV where I was responsible for the breakdown of a man twice my age. A few weeks later I was in Chicago for one of the most “adult” weekends of my life. Both defining experiences.
I’ve had bad times as well. I got a new car, only to have it hit by another car a week and a half later. I fell off a ladder rendering my hands useless for about a week - and unable to play guitar or piano for a month and a half after that, the real loss.
I’ve also grown closer to those I call friend. I learned that Mr. Stonecipher went in front of his school and willingly let someone punch him in the stomach. He has woken up with a bubble in his chest every morning since. Eric can blow smoke out of his eyes and did so for me on the theatre fire escape. Fuck the pyramids, and to hell with Stonehenge and the Great Wall of China. These are the things that really impress me.
And now Joe Roderick and I now share a common experience - sharing a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon with a girl we will grow to despise. Yes, it’s fair to say I’m a better person because of all of this.
But what event was so grand it made me do an update? What was the trigger?
In so many words: Luke is back. That’s right. Pot smoking, bicycle stealing, theatre janitor, oldest person I can call friend, Luke. The one and only. He called me from the theatre, after not finding me there. After asking if he could have his job back he followed with the essential question: if it was still possible to steal posters. Yes it is, Luke. Yes it is.
And with that I bid you ado, but hopefully not for as long as I imagine there are more adventures in the near future. Until then.
