Last night, I couldn't sleep! Nothing to worry about, just that I'd been sleeping throughout the day. Well, so i decided to make good use of my time awake, and recalled the way I had spent my time in Europe these holidays. It was more an attempt to make sure I remember each and every detail till the time I shed my laziness and got down to writing about the blast I had in Europe and the wonderful cities I visited, each with a different feel to it. Actually, this is one thing I wanted to do for a long time, write in one line, what each city represented for me.
Dover-The spectacular white hills, the ferry ride across the English Channel, the closest I've been on a cruise! Seriously, I had no clue the ferry ride was going to be so awesome! It was like a rendezvous with the sea gulls which kept coming on the deck of our ship.
Amsterdam- The city of bikes, canals and bridges! Yes, there are over a 1000 bridges in Amsterdam. People ride their bikes to office, school..everywhere! Its the city of BRING BRING BANG!!! because if you're not careful, thats what you hear right before a bike knocks you down for standing in the bike lane before realising how you should react! Also, the city with the most blatantly obvious red light area I would have ever imagined!!! Its almost a tourist attraction.
St. Goar- Along the Rhine river, the small town of castles, tall hills, rude people but people who nevertheless decorate their windows in the most beautiful way possible! Beautiful town, I loved taking a walk down the road and watching the angels, windchimes, paintings on the windows of the houses by the street! Also, the place with the world's largest cuckoo clock!
Munich, Munchen - Glockenspiel, the moving clock tower. Our tour manager, Amanda had told us to wait carefully for the end, because it was supposed to be the "Grand Finale" and indeed it was an anticlimax, for all that happened in the end was that the silly cuckoo came out and flapped its wings at us!!! we rolled down in laughter and Amandaz face was a sight! Saw a kaleidoscope for the first time and bought an absolutely gorgeous one!
Vienna- Are you in love? Well, then the Blue Danube should look blue to you, otherwise, its the same old green colour, as it did appear to most of us! ;) The city with beautiful gardens, mozart, strauss, the gorgeous view from St. Stephansdom, one of the most beautiful cathedrals I visited, and which also allow you to take pictures inside! A walk along the Burg Ring and in the market square and you get to see artists donned in their costumes and musicians paying brilliant music, which makes you want to stay there forever. Sacher torte, coffee and the best bus ride back to the hotel after the opera, credit goes mostly to the awesome music played by blake, our coach driver.
Venice- Well, whether or not you're in love, Venice is the most romantic city I have ever been to. Some people said, the water stinked, but for me, this city was BEAUTIFUL!!! The city of gondolas, canals, mask shops, narrow streets, helpful people. Saw a wedding in Venice, walked around the narrow lanes, entered every possible mask shop and got lost! Thats the best way to see Venice. If you have a map, put is aside and just keep walking, trust me, you wont be disappointed. As the sun sets on Venice, it gives it a beautiful glow, and you feel sad leaving this absolutely beautiful city. By the way, I've heard that its sinking, so you better go there!
Rome- The Eternal City! The city thats built and rebuilt several times and hence when you go there, you see Rome, in different levels, Modern Rome at th highest and Imperial Rome at the lowest! Its a city which has a history and trust me if you walk down the streets of Rome without knowing this history, Rome is no big deal because thats what it was for me on the first evening. The next morning, a guided tour through Rome, and wow! Rome had become one of the most fascinating cities for me! Hot!!!!! Very Hot, so be prepared with sunblock!
Florence- Very hot!!!! City with Piazza Michaelangelo, the famoust statue of David, who refuses to wear clothes no matter how many of his friends come to visit him...hahaha;)
Switzerland- I always miss this one when I count the places I visited, I don't know why! Waterfalls, snow, my first snowfall!!! Icing sugar on blocks of chocolate cake, thats what the hills looked like to me! My eyes filled with tears as I remembered my parents and dropped them a postcard from the highest point in Europe because it was because of them that I had come on this wonderful trip!
Paris- City of lights and our run to the city for catching the Eiffel Tower as it illuminated and sparkled like a diamond! The wonderfully lit bridges, the delicious smell of crepes from a nearby crepe stand as we ran from the metro station to the Eiffel Tower. Could only go up to the 2nd stage as the top most floor was closed after 10:00. Never mind, the view still brought a tear to my eye. A spectacular view, saw the illumination thrice and a wonderful evening with 3 friends, one whom I almost cut out from
the photo i was supposed to take for her...hehehe
London- The city of musicals, gardens, an extremely over hyped change of guards ceremony at the Buckingham Palace! The music as it echoed in the underground station, as the many talented musicians took their seat at one of the corners of the station, MIND THE GAP!!! Freaking Expensive, lovely desserts, the British Museum which hardly has anything British!
13 films for developing!!! Cant wait to see the snaps!
From London, to Oxford, Cambridge, York, Darlington and Durham! Cambridge was beautiful, memorable. Had a typical English Tea with scones, jam and cream, egg and cress sandwiches, yummy chocolate dessert and strawberries and raspberries with cream in the company of jennylampstand. Watched a game of Boules played by a group of enthusiastic and very cute old men and women! Lovely weather, beautiful colleges! Sat on the seats of the Cambridge law lecture halls, as according to the lady there, it was supposed to bring me luck..hehehe!
Lots of memories, every now and then ,I remember something funny or memorable and I realise there is no point in writing it all down! Its all there in the mind and will all come back to me :)
