THANK HEAVENS THERE WAS A SANTA HAT. I am making a hat before next year. I don't know why the hat is so important, but it so is. (Jason has like, a thousand. this year he has a Phillies World series champions santa hat, which is so ridiculous, but YOU HAVE TO HAVE ONE)
we did the big breakfast/ turn taking/ wait until X time and almost unwrap the *doorway* with lots of pictures, etc. too. It was a BIG DEAL. now we're all meh about it, and I feel guilty.
One trick my stepmom did when we were kids which we have since taken up ourselves is that the stockings went in the bedroom. when you woke up, you could open your stocking (quietly) and it gave the rest of the universe another hour or so of sleep. it works pretty well if you're doing fancy christmas, plus kids are AMAZED that santa snuck in and filled it while they were sleeping.
I would just like to say again how completely adorable your son is. Christmas is much better with little ones in the house, so little that they still believe. Your description of the Christmases to come makes me feel very nostalgic for my Christmases long past.
