I called NYC yesterday to get the ball rolling for a speech evaluation for Joey. The boy just isn't talking. Is he just a late talker? Does he actually have some sort of delay? What is the difference? Maybe it is the bilingual environment? I don't know, but we will find out. They took our basic information and are supposed to get back to us in two weeks when we are back in the States. We went to his last check-up with his pediatrician here and we had to wait forever which was a pain in the ass especially because she cancelled the last appointment without telling us. If we were staying I would switch peds at this point, but we aren't so no importa. I went to get him his vaccinations today because but the vaccinating guy told me they wouldn't have one he needed until mid-August and the other he was supposed to get when he was 1 year old and now its too late, which I think is BS. But it is annoying because vaccinations here are free and in the US we will have to pay because he will need them for daycare before I get insured again through my job, so that sucks. We have emergency insurance but not well-visit coverage which is no big deal in Mexico because it is cheap, but in the US. . . I don't want to think about it. Bah.
We are leaving in 12 days! Whoa. We've been selling our stuff and most of it is sold. We have a washing machine and a computer printer left to sell as well as some small odds and ends that we will probably just give away in the next week. People have been putting half the money down and are coming the weekend before we leave to pick everything up. It is going to be a little bit chaotic. This older woman who lives across the street has been coming by EVERY DAY to ask about this or that thing and saying how she wants all our stuff but then never giving us any money and saying that we should give her "la preferencia" because she said she wanted the pitcher or the lamp or whatever last week. And why didn't we keep if for her instead of selling it to someone else. Plus she just noses about our stuff and makes insulting comments as well as regaling us with sob stories about her nieto or whoever who is sick and that is why we should da her the preferencia. And don't we want to let her have this set of coffee cups to have as a remembrance of us? Uh, No you haven't spoke two words to us all year until you found out we were selling our things--so why the hell would we want to regalar you a recuerdo? She is a trip! It was amusing at first, but now she is just irritating the fuck out of me.
I guess I sound really irritated in this post, but I am not. I am still a bit high from our visit with the compas last weekend. Lucy is going to a two-week summer program and is having a blast. I am really excited to be coming home and to be teaching again in a two months. Next week will be hectic, but that is okay. Things are good!
