Ahhh, finally, a day off. I just worked 7 days in a row, which was really really super fun. Oh yeah, totally kidding :P
Work has been busy, but nothing really new to report from there. My visa was extended so I can work with one employer for six months, so I have decided to stay in Tralee and continue working where I am right now. I was debating long and hard whether to stay or move on, but after looking around at the job market and weighing up the pros and cons, I decided I didn't want to risk unemployment for 2 months and be forced to go home because I had no money.
So it's a little weird (and exciting) to think that in two months today I will have finished up at my job and hopefully have saved enough money to fund the rest of this "little" trip Kate and I are doing. I seriously cannot wait until she gets her butt over here.
I have booked my flights to Norway, and cannot wait to catch up with Lily for a week. However, in my haste to book flights and organise the trip, I managed to skimp out on an extra day with Lily because I got my dates mixed up. I seriosuly thought that Kate was flying in on the 24th, so I booked a late flight for the 23rd... and after the credit card got a beating and I went back over our itineraries I realised that FARK she flies in on the 24th. So instead of spending a couple of hours in an airport waiting for her, I now have to book 2 nights accommodation and wait for her in London! Not that it's such a big deal, spending 2 days in London but we all know I am a tightarse and I was soo careful in finding flights to conicide with hers and yeah, idiot went and booked the wrong one. Oh well.
Not an awful lot is happening here. Life unfortunately is just routine at the moment, as I muddle through work and sort out things for our trip. Our itinerary is finally nailed down thanks to the awesome help of Aunty Lal, hostels have been chosen and some tickets have been booked. Now all that is left to do is torture Kate with minor details because I'm not telling her anything, hee. Trust me, I'll be your favourite person forever when you come to London :D
The weather for the last few days has just been perfect, typical early summer weather... blue skies, mid-twenties, SUN and no clouds. Perfect perfect perfect. And I've worked every day it's been nice weather and haven't been able to enjoy it much. But it's nice today and I'm sitting outside in the tiny backyard stretched out over a couple of kitchen chairs being lazy.
I meant to update with this a couple of weeks ago... my Aunty Lal's friends Maria and Michael came to visit! It was so nice to meet them and was also really great to talk to some Australian's who had more than a minute to actually talk. Most Australian's I've met here in Tralee (I can count them on 1 hand, seriously) have been passing through the restaurant just for a quick bite... so it was great to catch up and talk with Maria and Michael. Unfortunately I had to work (the one day I wanted off I got rostered on!) and I didn't end up finishing till nearly 10:30pm which sucked, but we went to the Abby Inn after for a quick drink and to chat more, before they went back to their hotel. Their trip sounds so amazing, they have an amazing blog going as well -- >
maria-and-michael-on-the-road.blogspot.com/ It's so detailed and such a great read. I wish I had the patience to do something like that. I just gloss over the details in mine, I must remember to be more specific when Kate and I go travelling. Anyway, all in all, it was fantastic to catch up with Maria and Michael and it was a shame I couldn't have spent more time with them!
Oh oh I finally had to go and buy some summer-y clothes because I don't have any over here except for a couple of t-shirts! I went and bought myself some black cut-off pants (like my favourite 3/4 ones back at home), some nice t-shirts and a couple of button up shirts that seem to be quite popular over here. And 2 Euro singlets are always a bonus! It's kind of funny listening to everyone say how stifling the weather has been the last few days... obviously I don't think 25 degrees is stifling but I have to say, the amount of people coming into the restaurant with sunburnt skin shocks me a little. I know they don't get sun a lot over here but sunscreen people! You can get skin cancer even in Ireland! I wear sunscreen on my face every day and I've been wearing it on my arms too as I've been riding to work because I am so paranoid about my skin, but I find it amazing at how many people are burnt at the moment. After that one last burn in Kalbarri (oh the pain... how stupid we were) and the mole on my forehead, I don't take any chances. I guess it still suprises me that people still do.
Okay I am going to stop babbling now or else I might write another few hundred pages about nonsensical crap. I think I might go buy a few books, I can feel my brain turning into mush. I need something to stimulate it again or else I might just turn stupid :P
P.S. Eskimo Joe's new album, "Inshalla", and Kelly Clarkson's new album, "All I Ever Wanted" freaking rock. Would love to see the Eskies in concert again.
