Dublin again...

The day after St Patrick’s Day, I moved to another hostel and this one was soo much nicer than the first one. I ended up sharing a room with a German guy and two Italian guys (why do I always end up in a room full of guys??) the first night, and then a girl named Laura ended up moving into the room with us the next night after the Italians left. She’s pretty cool too, I had met her the day before when we were both in the common room trying to find the best place to get the wireless internet working properly. Both her and Moritz, the German guy, are doing the same program as me so it’s nice to have some more people who feel as anxious and overwhelmed about finding work and a place to live as I do.

Basically those few days I was at the hostel I spent job hunting and getting my resume out there. I applied for 30 jobs online in those three days.

On the Friday, Kayla and I had arranged to meet up for a day trip to Dun Laoghaire. Neither of us were quite sure what was out there, but it was only a short DART ride away from Dublin and we both were anxious to get out of the city. Dun Laoghaire is a beautiful harbour town on the coast of Ireland that has some great views... which would have been nice to see had it not been that little bit foggy. We actually didn’t spend much time here as there didn’t seem much to do. We grabbed some lunch and ended up getting back on the DART and going to Killiney, where we walked around for a while into the village and then we trudged along a beach full of rocks instead of sand all to go find one of Bono’s houses! After taking pictures of it like a fan-girl, we high-tailed it back to the DART and caught it all the way up to Malahide... and I would just like to add that the ticket guy in Killiney was so very cute and let us ride for free! Okay, turned a blind eye maybe and warned us we could get caught but even so, thank you ;)

Malahide was beautiful. We jumped off the train and went to go grab coffee/hot chocolate, and then we just walked around everywhere. We stopped to watch a wedding at one of the local churches (along with half of Malahide it seemed) before making our way to where Malahide Castle is. We ended up walking this beautiful walk through a forest and a park before we stumbled across the castle... it was such a beautiful day out (yes, still cold!!) so it was nice to just walk around in the sun and through the forest area. The Castle is pretty spectactular but required about an €8 entry fee. Well, I was being a cheap-o-saurus (hee hee) and did not feel like paying that much just to see a castle, so we just took lots of photos of the outside and continued the walk back to the town. I also saw a beautiful Beagle as well... she was an English Beagle like Lily is, so it made me miss my Stoop even more.

So while we were on the train going to Dun Laoghaire (I think it was when we were going there, it all blurs together now), I got a phone call from a guy wanting to know if I could come for a job interview in Tralee. He sounds very nice and very proud of his restaurant and of course the train picked the perfect time to go through a tunnel as he was telling me about the job. It’s a waitressing job for a small bar and grill just outside of the main town. It sounds like a great place, I remember thinking the bar and grill looked very swanky when I checked out the website as I applied for the job. I also remember thinking I would probably look like a bit of a slob in that place.

In any case, I am going to Tralee tomorrow for a job interview. A super early start, I have set my alarm for 4am as it is a 6 hour bus ride, I’m strangely not that nervous. Hmm. It’s supposeably beautiful there though, if I don’t get the job at least I can stay here a few days and see some gorgeous sights.

Fingers crossed.

Now I’m nervous.
