ERs : the difference between state hospitals & private hospitals

Last night my brother and I had a food poisoning episode and my brother seemed to be in such a bad condition that we decided to go to our family doctor, who then reffered us to the ER so that my brother can be observed for the night, in case of appendecitis. He prescribed some medicine for me first, though. First we went to Fatmawati Hospital, a state-owned. They took my brother in, but did not treat him, we had to reserve a room for the night first and then they'll treat him ( they did not as much say the last part, but their implication was pretty strong ^^;). No good rooms for the night though, all were full. When I got back from the administration office, my brother was still lying there untreated. So we decided to cut our losses and go to Pondok Indah Hospital instead.

Big difference in terms of treatment and hospitality (and probably procedures). When our car came into the ER driveway, a security guy came and offered us a wheelchair. In the other hospital, my brother held on to me while making his way inside (I'm short, he's about one head taller than I am, it's actually an amusing picture :D). The security guy wheeled him in, the nurses put him in one of the beds, made a preliminary check up and told us to fill in some forms while we wait for the doctor. She did say that rooms are pretty much full, but we might not have to spend the night if we're lucky. Turns out she's right. The doctor came in, checked on my brother and eliminated appendicitis from our list of what ifs. He gave us some prescriptions and sent us home.

Lesson learned from last night :
- I'm staying away from state-owned hospitals as long as I can, at least from Fatmawati. I was already traumatized when I was a kid and this experience just strengthened my aversion to it.

- My brother is a drama queen ^^; I say this with much amused love.
