Brushing Off The Dust...
So recent events have drawn me back to Quake. I dropped into PlanetQuake to find out what's been happening since I put the game down almost five years ago now, and to dig up some old favorite mods. For those of you who want to grab some Mods Gone By, they're still out there:
- Horror Show, the mod that kept us up all night.
- Quake Rally, where many of us learned to drive.
- Pain Keep, the last of the Great Addons.
- Team Fortress, the game that forever changed the way we played team FPS games.
- AirQuake, the indescribably well-built flying arcade mod.
- Quake Superheroes, the favorite of 1999.
- Star Trek: The Quake Simulation, a fascinating variant of CTF, overshadowed by its Quake 2 version.
- Future vs. Fantasy, the LotR meets Blade Runner meets King Arthur meets Double Dragon meets Mars Attacks meets Ninja Gaiden meet Quake mod. (thanks taranhero)
Also, I've heard that Darkplaces enhances the Horror Show experience, and that Tenebrae enhances most other Mods. Both are engine modifications, courtsey of the now long-released Quake Source.
