the long reach of fandom...

Oh, me. Tentacles everywhere: GalaxyQuest on the telly, squid in spicy brown gravy at Awabi (a "coffee and curry" place on the way to Noto), and a paperback with a woman with a bare breast sharing the cover with an octopus with amorous intent (at a stall in the village of Ohuchijuku).

Ohuchijuku, which is essentially a market town, would be a good place to indulge anyone with an owl fetish. Was also tempted by an intricate wooden puzzle-toy in the shape of a phoenix, as well as many other diversions and inspirations, both in the village and at ryokan where we spent the night -- there was a fat, silky stuffed pig amongst the scarves in the souvenir shop that I wanted so much to send to catrinella, and our Paola (in any of her incarnations to date) would have adored the combination of hot water, chilly air, and casual nakedness (public bath open 4 a.m. - 1 a.m., open air bath open 4 a.m. - 11 p.m.). Remus, like my companions, would have found the available slippers far too small but the snacks very tasty (thin wafers, chestnut jelly..), and I can see him happily racing Paola on the twisty back roads to be found between Aizu and Toyama (there were times during today's drive when I thought our little Vitz should have been equipped with five-point harnesses. ) (placet!Severus and Hermione? hm. Never without their bundles of reading, those two...).

All of that said, I'm not really planning to squid up my stories-in-progress with Japanese details (excepting some backstory to the Percy/Sinistra fic some daft wench co-signed me up for while I was off peering at samurai!, strawberry! and chemist!Hello Kitties (the last in honor of Noguchi)). At the moment, I'm still engrossed in figuring out what actually happened in Paola's bedroom in the second part of "Etude" (which takes place in Italy, and Remus is very much tied up in and during it, so the only racing going on is that of his heart...)

*coughs* It's late here, and this is perilously close to blogging. *wry grin* To bed, to bed.

plotting, squid
