just putting this out there...

okay, so, i had a thought this weekend and wanted to know what everyone thinks.

this weekend i got reponses from the rest of my colleges. although i got into some awesome schools, i was waitlisted at my two top choices. i admit i was pretty disappointed, although i probably shouldn't be, but i've decided to stay on both lists because i don't want ( Read more... )

i wrote a long comment to this but it didn't sound right, and couldn't without sounding quite rude (though i wouldn't blow up at you), so i just deleted it all and want to say that i'm in favor of the tshirt day, even though i didnt get into the school i wanted to go to, and i think it does unify the senior class because basically everyone goes to college from our school. sure thorp/the admin doesn't think about how it might leave out certain students, but i don't think it's a majority, or that a lot of people will be very upset by it... if you choose to stay on a wait list that's what happens. it's only a day.

think about this...what if you see a kid wearing the shit of your dream school...now what if this person has similar stats or slightly lower...what if you didnt want to go to the school you are going to and are embarassed to wear the shirt because it was all you had left. I have to agree with mary because it isnt really unifying..."our chance to show off" is really just gloating and it is painful to some of us. I'm sorry to attack you like this but these points need to be made.

t-shirt day aside, you shouldn't be embarassed about the school that you're going to no matter which school it is or what it was that you were aiming for. How will you like the school when you get there if you can't bring yourself to be open-minded about it now?

(and this isn't so much to you specifically as to everyone. a lot of people with very, very good stats didn't get into schools that they 'should' have gotten into this year, and a lot of people are disappointed. But. . .we all know what an arbitrary process college decisions are, especially now . . .at the very least people shouldn't be embarassed)

its not about being embarrassed. like, one of my friends only got into her two safeies and really doesn't like either of them.

i didn't get into my dream school. while i'm pretty sure no one got in who was less qualified, it still sucks that i cant go, and that the person who got in isnt going cause she found out she didnt like it. whatever, i really dont care and im over it ( ... )

you might not have liked it either. you didn't visit it either. and they did take other people regular decision besides me.

and while it is my decision to stay on the waiting list, for some people, it's not. i'm pretty happy about some other schools.

but one of my friends, who i have had several classes with and is, in my opinion, one of the smartest people i know, got into one school. she's waitlisted at three, including carleton. and she really really does not like the school she's going to. a day like that is really going to suck for her.

ps i love you and i'm not trying to be bitchy. but i do feel strongly about this.

i know how you feel. i got waitlisted at williams and amherst, and i'm starting to feel like i shouldn't bother. they're prob not gonna give me any money now and i really just want to pick a school that wants me.
