Thanks. I worked on it for so many days that I sort of lost perspective, since the end result turned out so different from the light-hearted picspam that I had originally intended to put together.
I'm afraid that the idea of the piece was better in my head than the actual execution of it.
I appreciate the comment.
(Bex's secret- When I finally finished this last night, I was tempted to keep it for my eyes only, because while I liked it for what it was, I didn't think anyone else probably would. Then after 2 large glasses of wine, I finally worked up the courage to unlock it and link to it at PP, but was so drunk by then that I had a hard time typing the intro to the link. I have a very low tolerance for alcohol.@_@)
I'm afraid that the idea of the piece was better in my head than the actual execution of it. I know the feeling! But I think it's a good piece and I'm glad you've unlocked it so others can enjoy it :D
Haha, I can get drunk more easily on wine than spirits, and I've had some interesting experiences trying to type after Sunday Lunch :D (Also I love everyone and any posts tend to be more squee and joyful rather than angsty or analytical!)
Oh, this is lovely :D Poor Darken, whining and feeling sorry for himself but also reaching for a greater self-understanding.
You've convinced me that it does make sense for Darken to know about his 'unnatural' conception; I like the point that Richard and Jennsen ought to be affected by that, too.
More than a thousand years ago, a great prophet claimed that one day a Seeker of Truth would be born, whose destiny would be to destroy the greatest evil the world had ever known. But at the time, this evil he spoke of didn't have a name. It was all very vague - as phophecies so often are.
Until this woman came along, and gave that evil a name - Mine.I love this. We never actually hear the exact words of Richard and Darken's prophecy, but this explanation makes so much sense - and also gives the potential for a greater evil that Richard will have to fight in the future, because there's always a bigger fish ;) (Although come to think of it, Darken might resent that interpretation in some ways

Thanks so much for reading and for the kind comments. This entry turned out to be so different from what I first intended, I wasn't quite sure what to think of it myself.
For some reason, the relation between Darken and Zedd just fascinates me. Zedd did abandon Darken after promising to stay, and it had nothing to do with anything that Darken had done.
After Caracticus is killed by Panis, Zedd grows to hate the son as much as the father. Yet Darken's evil deeds don't begin, as far as we know, until he's in his teens.
It always disturbs me that Zedd forgives Panis so easily, even though Panis's actions were the reason Zedd turned against the House of Rahl.
Panis started everything - he murdered Zedd's father, he seduced Taralynn - twice, and then he ran off to hide during the war, leaving Richard and Jennsen to fend for themselves. Yet in Zedd's eyes, Panis is redeemed in Vengeance, while Darken is still beyond redemption

I really like what you have here about child!Darken wondering what he'd done to make Zedd leave. Also it adds an interesting dimension to Darken and Panis's relationship, if Panis blamed Darken for Zedd leaving - if it weren't for the evil prophecy, I wouldn't have had to kill Carracticus and Zedd would still be here, etc.
Vengeance bothers me for a lot of reasons. Zedd's casual murder of the monks who sheltered Panis, and Panis himself - the way he treated Darken, the fact that he never so much as mentioned Jennsen and Taralyn is obviously only important as Zedd's daughter and Richard's mother. Even what he said to Richard and Kahlan about it being so fabulous and romantic to be on a quest to save the world with your one true love really annoyed me, because it seems like just one more piece of evidence that he doesn't know what it's like to care about someone else's happiness

I have a difficult time finding one redeeming quality in Panis, yet it's plain that the writers wanted us to sympathize with him in Vengeance. I never understood that.
Apart from how he treated Darken and totally ignored Jennsen, he seemed to think just siring Richard was all he had to do to help save the world, since he abandoned Taralynn after he slept with her.
And Panis was such a coward. If he was so concerned about Darken's evil, why didn't he come out of his safe little refuge with the monks and help the Resistance?
On top of all that, Panis knew that old Matthew would tell Darken where he was, so he had another monk take on his face, and left the monks behind, knowing that at least the man who looked like him would be killed.
Wow this is like the whole 2 seasons told from Darken's POV! I love it! Hey lets face "Legend of the Seeker" is going to be biased a little towards the Seeker right? ;)
"But he knows exactly how I was brought forth" I would have love to have seen Darken say that to Zedd's face. That was a conversation that needed to take place. The whole Panis/Zedd/baby Darken will always get to me. Panis still didn't get it in the end. There needed to be an apology. Yes Darken owes a ton of people apologies as well, but lets start at the beginning.
I like this as a new way of writing fic. Having the pictures with it is very emotional. The baby pic with Darken saying "this is me no horns...." that was just *sniff* I'm getting emo.
And I'm totally picturing Richard reading this now and what his reaction to all of it would be...... *cough* *sequel* :D
Thanks for taking the time to read and review, Melty. It means a lot to me.
The Panis/Zedd/Baby Darken scenario really bothers me, which is why I much prefer my AU take on Zedd/Baby Darken/Little Boy Darken/Panis in Sins of the Fathers. That version is my secret head!canon for what might have happened, and should have happened.
I never really thought of it as fanfic with pictures, but I guess in a way, that's what this turned out to be.
yeah after I said that I thought I'm probably the only one who thinks of this like a fic. Most would probably still call it an expanded pic spam, but there was so much story and emotion it was more like an illustrated fic to me which I thought was really unique and neat.
I've actually had thoughts of doing sort of a comic book style fic with mostly pics. If I could get it to work as good as this it would be worth it.

He's just despicable IMO.
