Hold on to these moments

Well, Julia's off to the airport. Jo left last week. And Brody goes on holiday on the tenth -- our school is left desolate!

I wasn't that affected by Jo going -- we're friends, but not super-close. And of course Brody will be back after three weeks. But Julia going really is a hard hit. She was here before I was -- only Corina and Stephen have been here longer. We got all the teachers gathered round in the canteen for pictures and goodbyes, with the classes all on much-extended breaks hanging round to watch the show, and of course she broke down halfway through, and Corina was manfully holding back tears, and I had to screw up my face ungracefully to keep mine to only one or two. And of course there was a last minute panic with the travel agent phoning to say she should be at the airport three hours early not two, and Stephen thinking that her plane ticket only got her to Rome and not from there to London, and her dad phoning at just the wrong time. And last-minute checks to make sure that Julia, being Julia, had everything with her: "Oh God, where's my passport?... oh no, here it is."

She's got a return ticket for November 2nd. İnşallah she'll use it, that's all. Belki değil. İnşallah.
