Yesterday I did a volunteering session with the advice line at
Liberty. I received an email through Tooks before the collapse asking for volunteers, signed up, was in Vancouver most of October, and did my first session in November. I responded to the email asking for December volunteers too late -- they already had all they needed. So this was my second.
I made a mistake in going there in that I took the Circle line from Temple to Westminster, which I thought was the closest station, when actually I should have got off at St James' Park. But it was a happy mistake. I was ahead of schedule, and so I had time for the walk: past the Houses of Parliament, rounding the corner at Big Ben at the bottom of Westminster Bridge, turning away from the UK Supreme Court on the other side of Parliament Square, around past the
Methodist Central Hall to the right and Westminster Abbey to the left, and on down Victoria Embankment. I enjoyed it so much I did the same thing in reverse on my way home, instead of striking out for St James' Park.
This morning it was suddenly colder. When I came out of the gym, I first knew it was foggy by the smell. The first thought that struck me was, "It's like November, not January" -- the smell must make me think of Bonfire Night. Sulfur. Burning wet leaves.
