Birthday

Today is my 33rd birthday.

Kit stayed at my house last night so I could wake up in my own place this morning. Kit has always been more reluctant than me to leave his own place and stay over; he's a homebody and likes to be in his place, surrounded by his things. I had hoped that my move to a studio flat rather than a flatshare with flatmates hanging about would help but instead it's exacerbated matters as, since I have no separate bedroom, there is no barrier between Leo's cat-flap in the kitchen and my bed in the living/sleeping area, and Kit is a light sleeper. Apparently Leo kept Kit up from 4.30am or so just by getting on and off the bed and going in and out of the cat-flap. Oblivious, I slept like a baby till shortly before the alarm went off at 7.15, when I woke up naturally and gradually noticed that Kit was shifting around a lot and calling Leo names under his breath. Heigh ho.

I had a nice simple hearing on a contact case where there was really nothing to be done but adjourn because a welfare report was delayed. Also the client and her ex-partner were both lovely people. (Yes, there are circumstances in which even lovely people need the court's help to sort out contact arrangements with their child.) For an extra frisson, due to absolute chaos at the Principal Registry of the Family Division we were sent off to the Royal Courts of Justice to be heard by an available judge sitting there. I love the RCJ and it is also very close to new chambers -- just across Chancery Lane.

We are going skating at Somerset House in about an hour and then later this evening to an "reduced Dickens" show. We saw a reduced Shakespeare a couple of years ago by the same company which was fun so it should be good.
