Episcopal church to affirm gay clergy

I think Williams is a lovely, erudite, liberal man. And I understand that he is only trying to prevent schism in the Anglican Communion. I understand that the global south, with its still conservative attitudes, is the only part of the communion that is growing.
But I cannot believe it is right to prize institutional unity over full loving acceptance of LGBTQ persons. How can we call ourselves Christians when there are people whom our church makes ashamed of who they are and whom they love?
