Yesterday Harper went to Governor-General Jean and requested that she grant him a proroguement of Parliament. It wasn't just a wild rumour. He seriously, bare-faced, went to the head of state and said, hey, seeing as I'm about to lose the confidence of Parliament here, can I have a two months breather and shut down ParliamentEven more stunning ( Read more... )

Well, actually, I think they mainly absented themselves. They knew they'd lose, so an election would have been a pointless exercise -- just returned the Conservatives to power, possibly with a majority.

I think it's a vocal few... the majority of the comm's members are Liberal/NDP/Green/generic lefties -- much like the majority of Canadians!
