Well, wig night at Night's was fun, after a slow start with people arriving late! I ate far more crisps than is strictly good for me and also drank a tad bit too much, yet somehow managed to stave off a hangover with a single huge glass of water at around seven a.m. Dragged poor Night temporarily out of bed to let me into the main building so I could leave just after nine, and forgot one of my new pairs of glasses on the coffee table.

Had a so-so day in St Albans. Attended morning service, with beautiful matins music, at the cathedral, and had a lovely wander around the grounds, but due to not even knowing enough of the town's geography to find my way to the tourist information centre before it closed, I had a rather frustrating afternoon of it after that. The transport system is somewhat more than shambolic -- there are actually TWO bus companies operating, which won't accept each other's tickets and know next to nothing of each other's routes! Two companies, in a town of less than 150,000! Why? WHY?

I wasn't absolutely stunned by the place, apart from the Cathedral and grounds which are, granted, gorgeous. It was very pretty in a Jane-Austeny-home-countiesish sort of way -- well, it IS a small town in Hertfordshire after all. Lots of little copses of trees in multiple shades of green, red roofs and shuttered windows. The main street has all the standard shops -- M&S, Tescos, Boots, the Body Shop, the requisite Burger King and a Holland & Barrett -- the health food chain which I find useful for not much besides vegan veggie sausages, sadly.

On the plus side, it looks like there's a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, it does seem very bikeable, with some gently hilly spots which are manageable but would help achieve toned legs, and the train station is twenty minutes from King's Cross ThamesLink if taking the direct service, forty minutes if taking the one that stops at small stations between. I think I shall go back in two Saturdays, head straight for the tourist information centre and do things like check out the market and library, rather than the Cathedral, Marks and Sparks and various bus stops, in increasing frustration and annoyance at the two hour wait times between some services, as this time.

New av is me in pink wig at Night's party. I do believe it is now clear that I have inherited my mother's nose. Along with eyebrow shape, oily skin and lines under eyes, final proof positive of our relation! (For those who don't already know, my mother is five eight with red hair and blue eyes and at my age was thin as a rail. Still thinner than me, in fact, just not rail-like anymore. Just as well.) Other pix to be found on Night's journal and hopefully her friend James will get back with still more. Must go fill out application form for job with NSPCC now!
