A promise is a promise

I said I'd update. Of course, given that I had said that, I absolutely HAD to have a last-minute Master's Essay emergency to deal with today. So. It is very, very, late, and my updating must be very swift. I will come back with a more fleshed-out version at some time when I have more than eight hours to sleep before I have to wake up again.

I had a fabulous time in NY. Jeanne and Jason are amazingly wonderful people who ran around looking up vegan restaurants for me and tried to pay for everything (they succeeded with the Mamma Mia ticket). Their dogs are adorable. NYC has some kewl vegan restaurants. I got to see Tiffaney's, FAO Schwartz's and the big Toys'R'Us (which is better! oh, the shame), Trump Tower, Central Park, Greenwich Village, the Fourth of July fireworks, ate at a teahouse called TeaNY owned by Moby, and I spent an idyllic afternoon getting lost in the Met. Got my watch stolen at the same time, but c'est la vie.

Back in Vancouver:

Job-hunting took about a month and I was scraping the bottom of the barrel (interviewing for Starbucks) when a friend of my mum's from work called up to say that the nanny she and a neighbour share to look after their respective almost-two-year-old (Adam: 18 months, Oliver: 22 months) little boys had ditched them and run off back to England (this story will be fleshed out later). So, that's what I've been doing for the past month. Nannying, nine hours a day, five days a week. Thank God for two hour afternoon naps. I'm enjoying it a lot, it's exhausting, more on this later.

Have also been enjoying myself seeing a lot more of my friends than I did last summer. Movies, parties, bbqs and fireworks. Oh, and Bard on the Beach. I really can't think of much that's better than Vancouver in the summer.

Finally, I am not going to Oxford in the fall. The expense is simply too crippling. More on this to come, too. As for what I'm doing instead? More on that as ideas come in. Big one at present: take TESOL course, teach English in Turkey.
