Still no bites...

Jun 15, 2006 12:00

I have the interview at eight a.m. with Help the Aged... a bit of a difference from today. I forgot to set my alarm and woke up with a start at ten past eleven! I don't think I've slept that late in weeks. None of my agencies called in with work, so I checked in the late afternoon and they all said, you're on our list, we will contact you. Maine-Tucker said they're hoping to get in some work for next week tomorrow. We shall see.

I'm babysitting for Tom and Ruth tomorrow night. Leaves a big long day in the middle, so perhaps I'll get stuff done!

Accomplished today:

Deposited cheque; topped up phone credit; forgot to order cheques. Oops.

Shopped in Crouch End.

Filled out application for replacement Canadian citizenship card.

Started filling out questionnaire on residency status for SOAS.

Emailed Lee, an old colleague at Interlang, to ask how he'd dealt with his residency status for the PhD he's currently doing, given he was teaching out of the country for several years before going back to school. (I'm wondering if he put this as "temporary employment" out of the country, thus allowing him to keep his residency, and if so, if I could do the same thing, thus claiming that I've been resident in the UK since I spent six weeks here in 2003. Mind you, even if I could, I didn't arrive until 1st October, and I would need to have been resident in the UK since 1st September in order to be resident for a course commencing this autumn. Off by one month. One month!)

To do still:

Order cheques.

Take cat to vet.

Make Turkish lentil soup (I checked the recipe today and have all the ingredients I need at home already! Wahoo, free food!!!)

Have pictures taken for application for Canadian citizenship card and acquire copies of long-form birth certificate (showing mum's name) and mum's proof of Canadian citizenship, because they want those. (yeah...)

Finish filling out residency questionnaire and find out who I phone to ask if, supposing I were to choose to teach at a Turkish university this fall, if that would qualify as "temporary employment outside of the UK" so I could continue accruing residency years whilst doing so. (Ah ha! A possible escape!!!!)

Fill out application form for Marie Curie administrator position.

Write cover letter for position with MS International Foundation. I've been told to "tailor" my CV for this as well, but I'm not sure how much more it can be tailored!

Send damaged P45 back to Lifeline so they can issue me a new one that includes my booking at the Royal Free. Ask Maine-Tucker to also send me a P45. Find out where the heck I send the P45s so I can hopefully get some tax back from the last fiscal year.

Email my referees and tell them the outcome of this year's applications. Perhaps ask advice on what on earth I should do.

Email the Oxford prof I met in Istanbul and ask her if she thinks the MA Turkish Studies from SOAS would be sufficient to allow me to apply for a DPhil rather than an MPhil Modern Middle Eastern Studies.
