It is time to make... DE MAGICKS!
- Photo Finish
I just remembered yesterday that we do have a Toys'R'Us that might be more likely than other toy stores to stock pony merchandise, and lo and behold, they did! So I got myself a little Rarity, and today I took a few pictures downtown by the harbor.
So, here's my entry for the "Ponies Around the World" competition! (Also
on DeviantArt for those who prefer that to Flickr.)
This is Rarity in front of a relatively new building down at the harbor. I originally wanted to get one with one of the large
Stena Line ferries in the background, but while the Stena Scandinavica was there at the time, it was mostly obscured by various bits of construction, access ramps, passenger tunnel bridges and (last not least) a ton of trucks waiting to board.
So instead, I opted for using this building as a background, which I think is both iconic enough to count as a landmark and representative of the area where I live, a harbor town at the Baltic Sea with a strong naval connection. I think it came out rather nice, too; the blue and silvery gray tones match Rarity's colors nicely, and they also give the feeling of a cool and breezy but pleasant spring day (which it was).
Here's a bonus picture, too:
There's a statue of a horse called "Meteor" a kilometer or two further up; apparently, he was quite famous in the 50s, earning several Olympic gold medals and also winning several other major international competitions. As far as I'm aware, there's another reason why he got a statue: the local (state) government wanted some sort of sculpture, but was wary of putting up a statue of a human for political reasons (this was not too long after the end of WW2). So instead, they opted for a statue of a famous horse: well-liked by everyone, and exceedingly unlikely to have any sort of unbecoming past.
Rarity thought she's looking at least as fabulous as Meteor, of course, and thus demanded the attention that she rightfully deserves. :)
There's a
few more shots on Flickr for those interested. Thanks for the competition - it was fun to participate. :)
