Last day of
the con (Sunday). After another massive breakfast of eggs and sausages I arrived at the con at 10 am. The room for the "Being a Brony" panel was late opening so I dropped in the dealer's room to look again at
the book about Luna's transformation into Nightmare Moon and banishment to the moon. I asked if it was the same that the Traveling Museum had always had, and yes it is.
The "Being a Brony" panel discussed acceptance, media coverage and the rise of nerd/geek culture. It was an interesting forum. "Speed Dating" was replaced by an art panel where one artist sketched six pony portraits in Painter (projected on a screen) while the three other panelists discussed basic technique and styles. Next I went to the "Ponies: The Anthology" panel where creative people behind Anthology 3 gave us a
sneak peak (the sneak peek we were treated to was longer and better) and answered questions. Anthology 3 should be about an hour long and the release date is estimated at "Christmas". Since I haven't watched Adventure Time yet I went to that panel. Now I have an inkling as to what it's about and I've seen the first (10 minute) episode. Last Exit to Ponyville is a webcast. Fandoms were shared. I skipped the Iron Pony competition and went back to the dealers room (bought tickets for a 3-D printed Twilight Sparkle draw, and won! ) and then I went back to my hotel for coffee.
Next was the charity auction. Lee Tockar joined the con crew for the first few items, including a can of beans and a can of spam. I snagged three 2011 Happy Meal ponies. After the original of the fan-art of Steven Magnet sold for about $60, Lee Tockar had to leave to catch his plane.
Half way through the auction the person behind the 3-D print figurine of Twilight Sparkle tracked me down at the auction and delivered her to me! I cradled her gingerly in my hand for the rest of the con -- 3-D prints are fragile. 8^) A little while later the Crebers and BlackGryph0n dropped in and a zap-apple they signed was auctioned (I got that). They had to catch a plane as well, and the auction went on.
I also snagged a glow-in-the-dark Zecora and a painted Equestria "bit" coin. The auction was supposed to be an hour long but stretched to two hours. 45 items were sold, raising $2,242.50 for a sick-kids charity and for the con. The items fetching the highest bids included a plush version of the con mascot ($195), a MLP comic with a cover exclusive to the Fan Expo con and signed by Cathy Weseluck ($250) and a WeLoveFine Derpy sculpture ($180).
Roughly 300 people attended the con. There could be another Canterlot next year.
Here is a picture of the Derpy Hooves suit taken by Syrik Rakkaus at the con:
