ok someone at the office needs help with this and i dont have time to figure it out so i need your help...

a farmer needs to buy exactly 100 chickens and spend exactly $100.00
chickens are $.05
roosters are $ 5.00
hens are $1.00

how many of each would he buy?

For the sake of my sanity expand on the process you went through to get this. I can ALMOST remember how to do it but not quite and I'm feeling like a retard at this point.

Well, the method I used is probably the simplest. Since you need an even dollar amount you know that you'll need a multiple of 20 chicks, which means either 20, 40, 60, or 80. You also know that you can only have whole numbers for the other chickens, so I substituted 20,40,60,80 in for my chicks and then the problem is just a 2 equations, 2 unkowns with 4 iterations to see which one yields whole numbers.
