Thoughts on the Election Results

Dec 13, 2019 14:41

  1. Oh! Dear!
  2. God knows what He is doing - Always. F'rinstance
  3. Seriously?  The UK electorate really thought that?  Or at least the majority of those of us who braved yesterdays torrential rains and gales to get out and vote did?
  4. Wonder how long that'll last then?
  5. Maybe, now, after at least four election defeats on the trot, the Labour party will sort themselves out and organise themselves.  Preferably into a credible and competent Opposition, then a credible and competent Government-in-wating*.  Because they Really Need To!
  6. Oh, right.  More years of Austerity, NHS run-downs, and Food Banks.  In one of the richest countries in the world.  In the 21st Century.**
As 'twas, I'd looked at the weather forecast for yesterday and decided that, because I had the choice, I'd stay in.  That way I was there and waiting when Veg Box Delivery Guy gently tapped on the door.  Despite the clearly written sign saying "I'm in.  Knock Loudly, plz"

Ah well, he took the 3 boxes we'd managed to accumulate.  He's coming Friday next week, I shall be in, and listening!

And when H got in from work he said,

"It's not raining.  Quick, let's go vote!"

So we did.  And we got back, and got the recycling and rubbish bins back in in the dry.  Then we battened down the hatches, lit the fires, had tea and settled in for the night.  Shame about the news this morning.

Still, the sun is shining.  Yay!

Now, bedding washed, out and almost dry***; Pilates-ed, coffee-ed; Asda raided (decided I didn't need enough fruit & veg to make it worth raiding the market), more coffee (and a choc-orange cookie); all unpacked and away.

Lunch - smoked haddock (reduced for quick sale) mange tout (ditto, wouldn't buy them out of season otherwise, but to stop them going to landfill), tomatoes (from the Veg Box); now more coffee, with oatmilk.  Yum!

Then I suppose I'd better knit another row of bricks in the wall.  That'll make more sense when I finally get round to posting a photo of the finished jumper.  Which won't be until after Christmas, though I'm still hoping to finish it (at least wearably) in time.

Y'all have a good day now!

*We live in hope.  We have to.  Not that they will necessarily be any better than the present incumbents, but seriously, they might stand a chance of being better for the 2/3 the population the Conservatives just Don't Care about (or for) apart from Voting Day****  Like the 1 in 5 adults living in poverty, or the 1 in 3 children.  In the UK, one of the richest countries in the world (for now) in the 21st century!

**How do they justify that?

***Just had a neighbour knock the door (loudly)  'One of your sheets is almost off the line!'  Yup, all but 2 of the 10 pegs I'd fastened it with had given up.  Yay good neighbours!

****If that is Libel, sue me!
